Face-Off What a long week. The lady and I are excited to take this weekend chilling...for the most part. Tonight will be a pork chops and brussel sprouts w/bacon kind of night. State of The Meh

Tribune : President Obama will call for a five year freeze on non-security discretionary spending in his State of the Union address Tuesday night, White House officials said, in a bid to help reduce the deficit and counter public perceptions that he spent too freely in his first two years in power. Obama will also discuss plans to find budget cuts wherever he can, the White House said. The military, for example, isn't covered by the proposed freeze, yet Obama will advance a separate five-year plan, drawn up by Defense Secretary Robert Gates, to achieve $78 billion in savings, the White House said. Obama is also expected to make job creation a main thrust of the speech, his second State of the Union address since taking office. I know I'm supposed to take this seriously, but I can't. If job creation is your "main thrust" you'll have to spend some fuggin' money. No doubt, the Free Market Fairy is Obama's guest of honor. She'll swoop in over teh lot ...

Fiscal Irresponsibility

James Kwak has the breakdown of the two parties in contrast : The bottom line: As a party, the Republicans who will be railing against fiscal irresponsibility and threatening to block a raise in the debt limit are the irresponsible ones themselves who created the need to raise that debt limit. The Democrats can claim to be somewhat less irresponsible; more to the point, perhaps, insofar as they did vote to raise the debt, at least their current behavior (assuming that most support the administration and vote to raise the debt limit) is at least consistent with their past votes. Of course, it’s more fun looking at an individual level. And the only people who can claim not to be responsible for the national debt — at least not via any of these five bills — are the newly elected members (except Rob Portman and Pat Toomey, who voted down the line to increase the debt as Congressmen) and Tom Coburn, who joined the Senate in 2005 and voted against both the stimulus and the 2010 tax cut. By c...

Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Yesterday was hectic and all over the place, but I made it to my audition thanks to my trusty phone with GPS. I even arrived early enough to relax, focus on my sides (term for segments of script) and rock it out. All right so I didn't quite rock it out, however it did go well. Of course...it's an audition...so you never know. In other news the Trans-Atlantic Throwdown is now available on ITunes ! We are worthy of the ITunes overlords. Thanks for those who have thus far taken time out to listen again you can email us at tatpocast@gmail.com . This weekend the lady and me are heading to San Fran. Lil Sis Frank is running the marathon and we will be there to cheer her on (special thanks to my lady for booking this lovely trip months in advance w/o which this amazing occasion wouldn't be possible.) Election day is around the corner, don't forget you can vote early ! Here are your highlights: Chamber of Commerce's foreign money isn't funny Ummm...how's this for ba...

If You Thought Mortgages Were Messed Up Before

Felix Salmon : You thought the foreclosure mess was bad? You’re right about that. But it gets so much worse once you start adding in a whole bunch of parallel messes in the world of mortgage bonds. For instance, as Tracy Alloway says, mortgage-bond documentation generally says that if more than a minuscule proportion of notes in a mortgage pool weren’t properly transferred, then the trustee for the bondholders can force the investment bank who put the deal together to repurchase the mortgages. And it’s looking very much as though none of the notes were properly transferred. But that’s not even the biggest potential problem facing the investment banks who put these deals together. It also turns out that there’s a pretty strong case that they lied to the investors in many if not most of these deals. There's more and it is rather appalling. As Salmon states, "It’s going to be a very long time, I think, before the banking system is going to be free and clear of the nightmare ...

Just To Clarify We Don't Believe What We Believe

Mitch McConnell's Spokesman clears up that Mitch McConnell didn't mean to say what he meant to say...or something. TPM : In a floor speech earlier this week, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke out against letting top-bracket tax cuts expire. "We can't let the people who've been hit the hardest by this recession, and who need to create the jobs that will get us out of it, foot the bill for the Democrats' two-year adventure in expanded government," he said . And the Spokesman had to say... McConnell "doesn't believe the richest people in American have had the hardest time in this recession," Stewart says. Stewart went on: "He does believe that small businesses, their employees and customers have been hit hard over the past two years, leading to higher unemployment which affects millions of Americans across the country. And Sen. McConnell doesn't believe anyone should be hit with a tax hike--not the lowest income who have born...

Get Your Dunkin Wednesday

I am exhausted and sadly I did nothing last night. I took it easy because my back is all jacked. Yes jacked. I think I pulled something in my lower back and basically am rendered useless. I am going to attempt to stretch it out tonight...we will see how that goes. Regardless I need some damn endorphins. So it's a short week! That's about all the good I got right now. Undoubtedly this weekend will be chalk full of misinformation, propaganda and melodramatic tributes to 9-11. I am just excited for the NFL season to start. I don't much care to see United 93 for the umpteenth time or hear Condi Rice recount the event in some " new fascinating " way for the umpteenth time. It would be nice if people did a story about the Pentagon once in a while. I know, I know I am bitter and annoyed about the 9-11 dot come take over of our national tragedy. It is a historical grievance of mine. At least Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin haven't hijacked it yet...oh wait. Here are your...

Building a Bridge to Somewhere

If you repair roads, railway and bridges you boost the economic situation. It is just that simple. The other option is dirt roads and well...not much: Bonddad : If the US gets to the point where the only transportation line connecting two cities is a dirt road, the US will be in extreme trouble. And that's where the "infrastructure is not economically viable" crowd is leading the country. I heard on the Today show today a commentator from CNBC attempting to defend the Wall St. overlords to the effect that confidence is key to recovery and Wall St. provides confidence. She then pontificated about how Main Street can't blame Wall St. I tend to disagree with such an assertion, mainly because it is full of shit. Our government and leaders have spent more time appeasing white collar jobs and Wall St . then worrying about the middle class and viable infrastructure jobs. You want confidence? Build stuff. Pay people and then repeat. It isn't difficult. Until we forget abo...

Get Your Dunkin Monday

Well I am back from a lovely weekend in Central Illinois. It wasn't as hot as I expected, but it was relaxing and just what the doctor ordered. We were able to take a couple of boat rides and while there was a breeze, just being out in the sun was perfect. My lady finally got her much earned R & R. The only negative was...we ate and ate and ate and ate. LOL. It never fails. Go on vacation eat yourself into a food coma. I feel like I gained a mini-me. I am gonna have to focus since this weekend is the beginning of the football season and lord knows I am going to be getting hammered while rooting for my Washington Redskins ! Here are your highlights: Obama proposes $50 billion for jobs . The news cycle already destroys the possibility of it passing. Depression here we come... The race card is b.s. Especially went it isn't being used. Facebookmobile It is hateful and extreme rhetoric. The Quran burning bigots are also making it less safe for our troops. SUCCESS! Obama has few...

Disconnect

I have had a frustrating day. Not a good way to start out the week. The doldrums of the box better known as teh computer has been haunting me all day with stalls, putts and freezes. Nothing works. It is laughable, however this is not. One thing I have been saying beating my head on the desk over since the inception of this blog is that there is a grave disconnect between the haves and have nots. Outside of Wall St. and the Galters, us "little people" believe the Free Market Fairy can't fix a fucking thing. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message
