Mitt Romney for Real

I'm on YouTube folks! That's right, after much consideration I finally decided to start uploading videos to YouTube. Most will be comedic videos for the awesome Matthew Filipowicz Show, however some will be random fits of rage.

Here's the inaugural video, "Romney for Real", check it out and some great interviews on the Matthew Filipowicz Show and don't forget to become a member. Oh and "like" the video if you sincerely do! Thanks for your support!

All right so yesterday was a wash. I can't dwell on it, I just have to figure out how to do better in awkward interview settings. Today is wedding focused day. Skyping with a possible DJ, looking at invites and sending out more "HEY WE'RE GETTING MARRIED" stuff. I think this whole married thing is one of the few things I look forward to daily.

Here are your highlights:

Asian Americans to the Suburbs

Um, Blake Griffin with the slam of 2012

GOP isn't becoming less extreme just because Romney is running, in fact they are still very much extreme

Little bit of jockeying here, but Twitter CEO says this is the year of the Twitter Election

Florida Primary is in the bag it seems, but Newt won't quit. Hope he doesn't, cuz it will sure be entertaining!

DC Brau: Cool Brew

This is simply awesome.

Washington Post:

Every work week Brandon Skall and Jeff Hancock of DC Brau shovel about 1,500 pounds of soggy grain out of their mash tun. Left to itself, this used-up barley (it resembles “dehydrated oatmeal,” according to Skall) would begin to fester, turning sour and smelly in a day or less.

None of it goes into the city’s sewer system, assert Skall and Hancock. Their usual modus operandi is to donate their leftovers to local farmers, who use for it for composting or, more commonly, for livestock feed. (“Cows are number one,” says Skall, but goats and poultry like it as well.)

To celebrate Martin Luther King Day, the partners set their sights a few links up the food chain and decided to turn their waste into bread for the city’s indigent population.

The day after the holiday, Skall and Hancock sealed five gallons of spent grain in a food-grade plastic bucket and rushed the grain, still warm from steeping in hot water, to Pizzeria Paradiso, which turned it into loaves at its kitchens in Dupont Circle and Old Town.

“It was kind of fibrous and a little dry,” commented Ruth Gresser, owner and head chef of Pizzeria Paradiso. She kneaded one part spent grain into four parts regular bread dough, adding a little clover honey for sweetness. All together, the collaboration produced 65 loaves, which were donated to Bread for the City, a Washington-based organization that provides food and other services to thousands of families.

The group was grateful, mentioned Skall. “Usually, they get bread discarded by food stores. It’s very rare they get fresh-baked bread.”

Pretty cool, let's hope more companies give back in similar ways. Listen to TATPodcast talk about DC Brau.

Get Your Dunkin Friday

It's Friday, we should be recording the next episode of TAT. Thanks to all who wrote into us, sorry it took so long to organize ourselves...also too, jobs. I'm kind of exhausted today. I woke up in the middle of the night with an anxiety attack. Some kind of bad reaction, so I'm beat. But we press on.

I have an interview today. I'm not confident as I have to go to Chicago when they want me to start work, however making it past the phone call is a positive sign. Gotta be positive! As for the State of the Union last night, you can read all my rants and jokes on Twitter. I had a fun time, thanks to Asian Pacific Americans for Progress for setting up the hashtag. I, also wanted to say, I made the mistake of going to Facebook after the speech...my friends there make me teh sad. Maybe we deserve Gingrich as president...I kid...that would be AWFUL. Obama 2012!

Here are your highlights:

Watch the State of the Union, in case you missed it

This is what I deal with daily as an Asian-American actor

Congrats to Steve Benen as he moves onto the Rachel Maddow Show!

A graph making it simple, Obama jobs

Mitch Daniels fail

Cool as a cucumber, that's how I would describe Barack Obama last night, especially after finding out he ordered a Navy SEAL rescue in Somalia. I think anyone who says the president is "weak" at this point should be laughed out of the room.

(Thoughts and prayers out to Mark Kirk and his family)

Mitt, Mitt and more Mitt. Wanna know why Mitt Romney didn't want to release his tax records? He made more money during a recession than there are unemployed people in America....he has millions to spare, so much so he had it stashed in Swiss bank accounts...until it was totally taboo to do such a thing. When people say Romney is out of touch, this is what they mean. He's a Richie Rich. A product of nepotism, a vulture capitalist and he's proof of everything that is terribly wrong in our tax system. There's nothing presidential about taking advantage of every loop hole, while having the audacity to joke that you're "unemployed."

Here are your highlights:

John Wayne...sometimes it's better for actors to simply leave behind their movies

Tennessee Tea Party, what slavery?

Amaaaazing, license plate

Wine Country Trip

Well, we're back and I must say our trip to the Santa Ynez Valley was beyond expectations. The scenery, people and wine made the experience one my lady and I will never forget. It was a much needed get away since we've now dived head first into wedding planning. Only 5 months away! We ended up kind of whimsically traveling around to different vineyards, most from recommendations from friends and locals, it was the way to go for us. By Friday night we didn't want to leave, we did, however come home with eight (the last pic) souvenirs ;) I think this is the start of a beautiful relationship with Santa Barbara wine country. Here are a few pics from the trip, hope you all had a great weekend!

A list of vineyards we visited:

Bridlewood Estate Winery
Rusack Winery
Rideau Vineyard
Lincourt Vineyards
Stolpman Vineyards

It's full on wedding planning time. The lady and I are getting hitched in less than 6 months and we're just awaiting the Save the Dates to put it in full gear. Designers...always behind schedule. Anyway, we're pumped and taking a mini-vacation on Thursday to wine country in Santa Barbara. Hopefully it will give us some time to just escape and relax. Couples massage? Sounds nice.

Today I'm getting another set of headshots. Why? Because that's how LA works, they need a ton of shots because apparently casting directors don't have imaginations...luckily I have a friend who is kind enough to help me out in this endeavor. I hate getting my picture taken and I hate headshots even more. However if it's part of the process for me to make it in the biz, I'll do it to it. I hopefully should have footage from the project I did last year, I can't wait to share it with you guys. Also too, back to my workout regime. Jobs Report, a Reason to Vote in 2012

Because shit like this matters.

New Deal Democrat:

This morning the BLS reported that private jobs increased by +220,000 and the unemployment rate declined to 8.5%.

Read the full analysis here.

Not showing up. Voting for a mythical character like Ron Paul. Or trying to show Obama "who is boss" leads inevitably to a reversal of progress. And although it's not nearly enough for a full recovery, there is not a single candidate who is willing to do a damn thing about it except for our sitting president. Romney wants to "Reverse Robin Hood", and well Ron Paul doesn't have a plan as much as a demolition method, Santorum...Google him.

Vote in 2012. Occupy the Voting Booth. I can't stress that enough. The moment we have less Republicans and elect more level-headed officials, perhaps the sooner we can get out of the Great Recession. RADICAL! GASP! WHAT'S THAT YOU SAY?!

Okay, don't believe me, Steve Benen with easy to follow charts. Ooh. Aah.

Happy 60th Birthday Mom

My Mom would be 60 today. I miss her the same as I did when she passed away almost 13 years ago. I used to take today off from work, try to find some way to get away from my thoughts, family and distract myself. I realized that the more I celebrate how she lived, the more I talk about her, the better I feel. And that's part of it.

This year I'll be getting married. It's one of those milestones I always thought my mom would be present for...I haven't quite figured out how to tip my hat to her during the ceremony...

Today though Mom would be 60. A young, funny and vibrant 60. Undoubtedly she'd be in the kitchen, listening to the Beverly Hills soundtrack or Kenny Loggins and making sure we set the table properly for the day's feast. I'm sure Dad would have brought home Chinese food and the fireplace would be just active enough to make us nervous. We'd each be assigned tasks and argue playfully who would do what and when. Mom would direct traffic with her wooden spoon calling us out by our full names. A joke here. A stern look there. Each one of us in a chaotic harmony. Mom in control of it all. That was Mom, the center of our universe without ever making us feel like she was, it takes a special person to accomplish such a feat with a Danny Devito like husband, three boys, and a darling girl.

Like I said I miss her ever the same.

If you have a second, visit the Christ Elliott Fund for Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research page. Make a donation, post a story, tell your mom you love her and you'll always be there for her. Cancer sucks.
