My Mom would be 60 today. I miss her the same as I did when she passed away almost 13 years ago. I used to take today off from work, try to find some way to get away from my thoughts, family and distract myself. I realized that the more I celebrate how she lived, the more I talk about her, the better I feel. And that's part of it. This year I'll be getting married. It's one of those milestones I always thought my mom would be present for...I haven't quite figured out how to tip my hat to her during the ceremony... Today though Mom would be 60. A young, funny and vibrant 60. Undoubtedly she'd be in the kitchen, listening to the Beverly Hills soundtrack or Kenny Loggins and making sure we set the table properly for the day's feast. I'm sure Dad would have brought home Chinese food and the fireplace would be just active enough to make us nervous. We'd each be assigned tasks and argue playfully who would do what and when. Today I'm 30. Yup, 30 years ago today I was born in Alexandria, VA. To be honest, in my morbid head, I never thought I'd live to see this day. Thankfully I'm here and highly anticipating my next big adventure in Santa Monica . This weekend was great; hung out with the future in-laws, checked out our reception space, met up with old friends to watch the Pacquiao v. Mosley ( disappointing fight), ate some delicious Dim-Sum and took a stroll around Lincoln Square. It was how I wanted it, low key. I'm excited to see what's in store for me at 30. I have a new five-year plan, much more focused and with high expectations. I hope to overachieve in the years to come. Happy Birthday to my lady!!!! Hooray for my fiance! Yup, today is my lady's birthday and this past weekend we spent it shopping, eating delicious food and swimming with the dolphins! Okay not really on that last part, but we did go to Shedd Aquarium and it was awesome. Tonight I'm taking her to one last romantical rockin dinner.
