Angry Asian Man explains it all.
One thing Hollywood won't admit to is that to cast an Asian actor in a "white" (could be a non-descript character) role is rare if it ever happens. While casting white actors in a role that is Asian or any other race for that matter is common practice. Why none of the producers or in this case director, see anything wrong with this hypocrisy is the issue.
It would be one thing to colorblind cast across all of Hollywood. That, however is not the case. Shymalan does not get a pass. It does not count as cultural diversity if you throw in the guy from Slumdog as a reprieve.
