Like to posit that there are serious candidates amongst their rank and file. Truth is, they are all quite crazy. Here is Santorum the other day. But you see, the Michele Bachmann's of the world just so happen not to wear freedom masks around and so "Real Republicans" can claim that she and her like are outliers of the base.
Rick Perlstein has written about this often, that the Bachmann/Santorum's are nothing new. And crazy in the Republican Party is not merely a "small portion" or "faction" it's been an integral part for years. Why else would a Michele Bachmann even consider pursuing her party's nomination for President?
