He Might Regret Saying That

BP's new whipping boy CEO Bob Dudley:

"With the cap in place, there's every indication the well has complete integrity," Dudley said. "I do not believe we will see more oil seeping into the Gulf."

How long before he retracts that statement? Mine my money is on the under. I do, however believe it was a good move for the gaffetastic Tony Hayward to step down. Dudley comes from the Fighting Illini, perhaps he and Chief Illiniwek can combat the oil with their bare hands...

My take is that Hayward stuck around as long as he did as part of a deliberate PR strategy. Have him there while they are still scrambling to take the heat for all of the problems. Then when things have settled down he resigns and they can blame him for all of it. They get a nice PR solution and he gets a big pile of cash.
