The Royal Bush

Glenn Greenwald calls it like he sees it:

We're obviously hungry to live with royal and aristocratic families so we should really just go ahead and formally declare it:

Bush daughter Jenna Hager becomes 'Today' reporter
NBC's "Today" show has hired someone with White House experience as a new correspondent — former first daughter Jenna Hager, the daughter of former President George W. Bush. . . . She "just sort of popped to us as a natural presence, comfortable" on the air, [Executive Producer Jim] Bell said. Hager will work out of NBC's Washington bureau.

They should convene a panel for the next Meet the Press with Jenna Bush Hager, Luke Russert, Liz Cheney, Megan McCain and Jonah Goldberg, and they should have Chris Wallace moderate it. They can all bash affirmative action and talk about how vitally important it is that the U.S. remain a Great Meritocracy because it's really unfair for anything other than merit to determine position and employment. They can interview Lisa Murkowski, Evan Bayh, Jeb Bush, Bob Casey, Mark Pryor, Jay Rockefeller, Dan Lipinksi, and Harold Ford, Jr. about personal responsibility and the virtues of self-sufficiency. Bill Kristol, Tucker Carlson and John Podhoretz can provide moving commentary on how America is so special because all that matters is merit, not who you know or where you come from. There's a virtually endless list of politically well-placed guests equally qualified to talk on such matters.

By this point in time, we should all be used to it. I saw this on the tube this morning and was immediately in ragetastic mode. To pretend that this is even normal shows how the Village and the Beltway completely lack self-awareness. It is the same people that "debate" torture. "Discuss" death panels and subject the American public to the nepotism and royal family mentality of our elite society like everything is "a-okay."

To put it bluntly to pretend everything these Villagers and their like accomplish is whole heartedly earned and not without a royal rub off is a fuggin insult. Fugg them and their ponies. While people are losing their jobs and states are botching funds to help the unemployed; it is always nice to know if you are the daughter of the former President who authorized torture, a fake war, and violated numerous powers of the executive branch, you can get a spot on day time teevee with a round of applause.

The only thing that could have made that better is if they neglected to mention the Kennedys... OH! SHIT! They did neglect the Kennedys. Because we all know that nepotism and the "royal" treatment is okay when applied to members of the Kennedy clan.

And the Gore family.

If you read the updates Glenn clarifies, what he stated, the Bush's are just another example of it. However, the Bush hire at NBC one is even more egregious because of G-Dub's resume.

Good, I'm glad he made the clarification. Any discussion of American "royalty" that forgets the place of the Kennedys in American culture is just ridiculous and I'm just a bit shocked that he left them out in his first post. Links are one thing, naming is another.
