Sully finds a reason to Meep on the Tax Cut Deal:
The most powerul aspect of this entire deal is how it has delivered a body-blow to the FNC/Limbaugh/RNC notion that Obama is an enemy and an alien and a threat. Instead, he's now the architect of a deal with that most rightwing of Republicans, Mitch McConnell, a deal that legitimizes Obama on the right with consequences McConnell probably hasn't completely absorbed yet. Maybe this was an inevitable consequence of the GOP assuming some responsibility in running the country. But it has pricked that balloon of demonization that has given much of the right its energy these past two years.
Meep, meep.
He does have a valid point. Not sure if that was Obama's intention all along, but it certainly poses a problem for the GOP. A problem they've brought upon themselves nonetheless.
Now if I was a PR guru of the Teabaggers of Nationism, I would be railing against everybody under the sun whether it's the Obamanator aka Socialist-Swine of Capitalist-Kenya or McConnell the Sellout-Out-Closet-Hippie-Gay-Loving-Former-Slave-Descendant-Reparations-Yankee. Then I would get the Bachmann's and DeMint's of the world and shower them with adulation hoping they repeal the 14th amendment which we all know let's anchor terror babies steal kids lunches and make them eat healthy food! Meanwhile I'd be doing my best to stack my bunker full of can goods, Bible clippings, Beck University school books and Easy Mac in order to be fully prepared for the Gaypocalypse round the corner in Illinois. I done tell you this America is going to the hell!

I don't get why anybody thinks this strengthens Obama. It is true that it will boost economic growth, but it's unlikely that unemployment will decline significantly and THAT is the big problem Obama faces. Bigger GDP numbers are all well and good but people need to see the bottom line number.
Overall the deal:
1) Convinces the right further that they can vanquish the Kenyan usurper
2) Angers the liberal base of the Democratic party
3) Blows a huge hole in the deficit (which Republicans will use in 2011 to extract concessions from Obama to get the deficit ceiling increased)
4) Provides limited stimulus that will go unnoticed by most of the public
Where's the win?
I think Sully explained just fine where the win is, but as a thought experiment here are the counters to your points:
1) The Right can't call him a Kenyan anymore they negotiated and caved on several fronts. If he is truly Kenyan and ruining the country, why negotiate?
2) The liberal base still polls positive with Obama. Yes some pundits and DKos will bitch, but when 2012 comes around they will understand the gravity of the election and vote for Obama.
3)Deficit hawks on the Right conceded the higher ground when they let Obama say "high end tax cuts supported by Republicans only." They are exposed. Might take some time, but it's an easy debate "they wanted the deficit killing tax cuts for the rich." HOSTAGE TAKERS!
4)When the economy recovers this bit of extra stimulus might go unnoticed, but it will help. Some think more than others, http://voices.washingtonpost.com/ezra-klein/2010/12/mark_zandi_on_the_tax-cut_deal.html
And the public will remember Obama stood with the middle class and unemployed not the other way around.
P.S. He will also be seen as the grown up between both sides. Convincing the waffling and often stupid independents.
P.S.S. The Broncos suck.
