The Walking Dead Decade

Krugman : Ever since I began writing for the Times — and probably before, but I wasn’t paying so much attention then — I’ve been struck over and over again by the unkillability of zombie lies. I mean, supply-side economics should have been killed by the Clinton years: he raised taxes on the rich, everyone on the right predicted catastrophe, and what followed was 8 years of rapid growth and surging revenues, with the budget actually moving into surplus for the first time in three decades. But no: the right interpreted all the good stuff as a lagged effect of the 1981 tax cut (which meant that LBJ deserved credit for Morning in America, but who’s counting?) I often wonder out loud the same thing. How is it possible that we are still having these discussions? It's as if we're debating with a broken record. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Paul Krugman Would Be Annoying

To me too if he was constantly pointing out how wrong I was , doesn't mean you shouldn't be listening to the man. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Get Your Dunkin Monday

Well what did I miss? World Cup? Boxing? Nope saw those and although the final was underwhelming Fight Night was fantastic! Juan Manuel Lopez puts on a heckuva show, even if it was only two rounds. In other news I started week four of INSANITY today. I woke up early and tried to do the morning workout thing. Not sure how people do it. I spent most of the workout trying to come to. The whole time I felt I was half awake, but I was sweating and huffing and puffing, so I assume I got my work in. I get to go in late to work today. Probably will do the following: nothing. LOL. The lady starts her new job today, send positive thoughts her way! Here are your highlights: Arne Duncan: Schools need funding Shouldn't the rich pay higher taxes? Teabaggers need training before they are let outside again Jobs, Jobs, Jobs FACT CHECK! The sad state of the morning shows, thank god for Rachel Maddow The Feckless Fed : Bernanke I am told is a genius. I am still awaiting a single stroke of genius. ...

I am feeling a little better today, but still wary about pushing myself too hard at the moment. I woke up this morning and cooked myself one egg and two egg whites with a bit of Mexican chili powder, topped it with salsa and set it on a bed of toast. Delicious. I am trying to add variety to my meals this week to prevent my body from getting used to any one meal. So far it is hard being inventive with such restrictions set out by the diet plan. Perhaps today will be a "search Food Network day." Here are your highlights: Volckler rule might be optional? This is getting to be a fucking issue, Wall St. getting some bonuses Convention Superstition , AUSTERITY!! Dave Weigel gets a job! Uh-oh Kagan doesn't think the Founding Fathers were perfect... Obama and the WH getting Lucy'd left and right . What an effing surprise. Chow!

Damn that Paul Krugman

He is always right : No, I haven’t lost my mind — that’s not what I believe. But you know that’s what the talk-show hosts will be saying soon, if they haven’t already started. The only question is what the story will be. Will it be claims that liberals and/or scientific conspirators sabotaged the rig, to undermine good Americans who want to drillheredrillnow? (Michael Crichton already wrote that novel). Will it be that oil workers, demoralized by the march of socialism, fell into despair and let the accident happen? Will it be claims that since this didn’t happen under Bush, it obviously shows that Obamanomics is responsible? I don’t know. But you know something along these lines is coming. And then Krugman in the updates catches Rush Limbaugh opening his mouth... I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Get Your Dunkin Friday

Aww Friday. Finally here and thank mothereffin Jeebus! I have had it already with this week. Last night I did some last minute recording for a short film I was in, so that was good. I surprised my lady for our anniversary with some bubbly and a new book of hilarity . And I rocked out. So all in all last night was fine, but damn today needs to end already. I am in one of those moods where it is like, ok I showed up to work, pay me and let me get out of here. Superbowl weekend is upon us! I have to say although the Colts are the favorite, there is nothing more I hope for then that team losing. Colts fans are like the guy who meets you at a bar when you are out with buddies cuz he saw it on Facebook and went even though he wasn't invited. They have chin strap goatees, smell of Copenhagen dip and have a holier than though attitude. I can't stand them. In other words, Go Saints! America's team! Here are your highlights: Fiscal Scare Tactics , Krugman explains that the deficit do...

Bad Advice

Krugman poses a troubling and puzzling incite about the White House and its advisers. All the while he stumbles on a key point even he misses : Interesting back and forth between Brad DeLong and Noam Scheiber over the question of whether Democrats, possibly including the White House, really believed last summer that “[t]he stimulus was working more or less on schedule, and the job market was gradually recovering.” I guess it must have been true. But all I can say is, what were they thinking? There was ample warning, even before the severity of the crisis was clear, that the recession was likely to be followed by a prolonged jobless recovery. E.g., here (January 2008): I still keep reading articles asserting that the last two recessions were brief and shallow. Formally, that’s true. But … in both cases the employment slump went on for a long time after the recession was supposedly over. There’s every reason to think that the same thing will happen this time. There’s a huge overhang of e...

Teh More Crazy Economy

I hope this isn't a growing trend, but Josh Marshall points out more of the crazy. Perhaps it is the Faux News Reality , but as polls are showing teh America is teh stupid : A few minutes ago I left the office to grab a cup of coffee. And on the way out the door I spent a few moments in the Fox News alternative universe. The topic was budget deficits and the stimulus plan; and the anchor was Stuart Varney, a one-time financial news reporter for CNN. Varney was berating some hapless guest about how the Stimulus had "failed" because the jobless rate is higher now than it was when the bill passed. And thus the money should never even have been spent. Now, we're no strangers to hearing that the stimulus 'failed'. But that's usually from Republican politicians. And from them it's more understandable. First, because an opposition party has no percentage doing anything but saying the in-party's policies have failed. And even though no one thought that une...

Halloween done . October done. The majority of the year done and man what a year it has been ...but it ain't over yet people! The lady is under the weather today (send her positive get well thoughts or I will ninja slice you) which means I too am a little on the groggy side. This weekend included dressing up, boozing with a theatrical crowd and then watching Transformers 2 , which by the way was action packed, but rather stoooopid at points. Michael Bay has such of a hard on for the military and a jonesing for racially motivated humor, in the next movie will probably have a coup with a bunch of soldiers in black face. Aww, but the predictable cheese fest of Michael Bay is the least of my concerns, why? The world needs more RAGE!! Here are your highlights: Taxpayers lose Goldman wins! We were right and Krugman writes we are still right, MORE STIMULUS Mindy White covering "We are Birds" The blog that inspired me to blog in the first place, Driftglass , is about to hit 2 mil...

This weekend I get away for a day with the lady, then onto a the Final Frontier ! Not sure what the future holds, but I hope they Star Trek fans everywhere adopt me into their unique culture. I am still not certain I totally grasp the awesomeness of Star Trek I do, however look forward to learning and performing as one who does. Here are your highlights: Netroots Nation 2009 is all the happening in the progressive community, Digby weighs in on the ghots of deficits and Howard Dean is still my Secretary of Health and Human Services Sam Zell you are fired Let's just all conclude Karl Rove will go down in history as one of the most vile apprentices to Darth Cheney of all time Cartoon of the Day : Stay away from my Health Care YOU GAYS!!! Holy Christ on a bike what a weekend! So the lady and I went to a wonderful wedding of two close friends and were surprised to find a Columbus, OH Tax Tea Baggin' Party. YIKES! To summarize some of my favorite signs "Obama is a Kenyan", "Abortion is Murder" (on a tee shirt of a 12 year old child with a scope mind you), " I choose Freedom over Health Care ", and car equipped with a speaker system and tons of pictures of dead fetuses, a Hitler poster next to a Dr. Tiller poster comparing the two...needless to say RIGHT WING EXTREME! On a real note my lady was rather nervous for our safety as the looks and glares at the biracial couple walking by intimidated her greatly. A young boy holding an anti-Obama poster pointed at me most likely to spout something his daddy never meant for him to say out loud like "look at how great they look together." *sigh When will people realize that robots are much scarier than Obama , check out the video people!! ...

I am beyond tired. This weekend went by really quick and luckily I had the hangover to prove it. One moment that stood out above the rest was the Hall of Fame induction of my favorite baseball player Rickey Henderson . I loved watching Rickey play baseball, his long lead off of first base, his dramatic batting stance, the way he would snatch a fly ball out of the sky. He made it look fun and easy. Sadly Rickey was always misunderstood in my opinion, when you are that great at baseball sometimes the media doesn't know what to do and that was the case of Rickey Henderson. He has been waiting to be inducted all his life as if it was destined and it was great for him to speak eloquently about his career and take his place at the table. A baseball Hall of Famer. I still got your baseball card Rickey! Here are your highlights: Health Care to Small Business Bill Kristol might be the worst person in the world, Lying is the Republican Game! Certifiably insane = Sarah Palin honestly I can...

Get Your Dunkin Friday

Oh how I hate to get up in the morning! Oh how I would rather be in beeeddddd! But alas it is Friday so that is good news to Frank. I am all set to chill, play guitar and do a whole lot of nothing maybe paint if I feel up to it. Yes I said paint. No worry it will include ninjas and swords and imagery of political awesomess...or butterflies and cutesy teddy bears. Whatever makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. IF you are in Chicago and want to catch a kick ass comedy show check out Mike Stanley at the Lakeshore Theater . He will be performing with ESPN's Sklar Brothers and recording his DVD. I happen to know Mike personally and he is one of the nicest guys, despite the above rant, in the business. Always a gentleman, great to shoot the proverbial shit with and a great friend. So check him out already! Here are your highlights: Cost and Compassion , let's just break this down if you don't want some sort of health care reform you are well... Heartless Got in a little debate ye...

Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Wow never let your cousins from the burbs convince you it will be a light drinking night....hungova. I have come to the conclusion if you start drinking young in Chicago, you will continue to drink like you are young no matter how old you get. How do these people wake up for work everyday I have no idea. The above is another great video from my friends at HeadzUp , the Health Care Debate is getting heated and the pressure from the Left needs to continue for real reform to occur, but what is with Obama? His staff can't even get the message straight, it does remind me of a quote I once read from Bill Clinton, "you needed to push harder from the Left." The more Obama and the Dems get a nudge, the more the bill can look like the bill America needs. Forget the Repubs, this is not about them it is about the health of our future. Here are your highlights: The Fair and Balanced Rupert Murdoch is fairly encouraging unethical and illegal "journalism" Palin, her resignat...

Last night I was in shock. Complete shock as the rule of three dropped a bomb, Michael Jackson passed away . For all the trials and tribulations of his life at his pinnacle there was no one better in pop than Michael Jackson. Growing up he was an inspiration of performance, attitude and an icon. It is clear as the day after reports come in, he was bigger than Elvis. Globally his outreach changed pop culture like no one had done before. Everyone has said what can be said. The saddest part is we together watched his rise and ultimately his fall; a tragic and triumphant figure torn by the fame bestowed upon him. He will be remembered for controversy, oddities, kindness, philanthropies, moves and style, but above all his music and "they way he made us feel." Here are your highlights: Harold Koh confirmed , SUCK IT! the Repubs hate Cap N Trade, so much so they keep going with fake stats and even contradict one another.......some people just want the world to look like this .....s...

via bold progressives This week has been busy, hence the shorter posts and sporadic topic switches. At least this weekend I get to hang out with old friends and family. It is also a relief knowing your weekend will be a little bit slower than your week. I have a show tomorrow, ALL ASIAN (wink, wink), cousin is coming into town and a guy who called me his "best man" will also be gracing Chicago. Speaking of Chicago, it is HOT! Summer is here and it is not going away like Sanford on a Argentine Nekkid Appalachian weekend. Hooah! Here are your highlights: FBI arrests blogger for being a gun nut in hysteria, mark this under "when blogging gets trigger happy" Pothead "Dude what are those blobs in space?" Scientist "I do not know, let me find out" Mousavi's wife is making a statement in the protests in Iran , women have a voice too When you turn on the locals news in Chicago, this is what you see too often, 9 year-old shot in drive-by Another Gree...

Morning Funny! One day away for my beautiful girlfriend and her big day, oh and I am getting older. Last night Google maps failed me. It is disconcerting to know that Chicago is essentially a grid, but sometimes you can't find a place. Grrr...but at least it's Friday and boy to we have a lot to talk about here are your highlights! U.S. Jobless rate, it's not pretty . Can we just accept that baseball is not American and call it communist drug lords ball and move on! But the suggestion that it is Manny being Manny is quite fun banter . I WANT TO SEE THIS! Drew Peterson. The dude is guilty , he couldn't be creepier, more adamant about his own vile behavior and thank the Chicago PD for finally getting him behind bars before he strikes again. Meghan McCain talks about sex and might just be the future of the GOP The "off the record" meeting with the White House by Paul Krugman , it is becoming apparent around the blogosphere that the financial sector and perhaps t...

Monday and more rain and mugginess. I know April is supposed to mean showers, but not fall weather temperatures. Great weekend though and here are the highlights. Japanese screamo band FACT totally rock and wear scary masks. Unfortunately they were just injured in an accident on their first US tour and went back to Japan to recover. All the best to FACT . The lady friend and I went to the Cubs game on Saturday. Amazing . John Boehner still stupid . the MMA will always be second to Boxing with a CEO who doesn't appreciate the "science" and "craft" of his fighters. Styles make fights .
