Getting There: American Catholics Support Gay Marriage

It's icky, but not oh so icky as it once was. Political Wire : American Catholics Supportive of Gay Marriage In the latest poll showing increasing support for gay marriage, the Public Religion Research Institute finds 43% of Catholics in favor of allowing gay and lesbian people to marry, 31% in favor of civil unions, and 22% who said there should be no legal recognition of a gay relationship. Key finding: 39% of Catholics approve of the church's treatment of the issue of homosexuality, and 56% of Catholics believe that homosexual sex is not a sin. This is promising and a sign that times and people are evolving in their thought of teh gay. Maybe the U.S. will give up discrimination for Lent... I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Don't Ask Don't Tell Repealed

Image
A wonderful gift before the holiday. I find this to be quite fun. It's about damn time! I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Fast Track to Repeal

Greg Sargent : Will there be enough time to vote on repeal before the end of the lame duck session? As a matter of fact, there is a simple way that Reid can make the time necessary to ensure this gets done, aides involved in the discussions tell me. Reid needs to schedule a debate and vote on DADT repeal beginning as soon as this weekend, once the issue over government funding is resolved. Reid can do this before New START is resolved, or at least while it's getting resolved. On MSNBC just now, Joe Lieberman called on Reid to fast-track DADT repeal in this fashion. "I believe instead of going back to the START treaty, we should go to the independent stand-alone repeal of don't ask don't tell Saturday night," Lieberman said. "We can get it done by Monday, maybe Tuesday at the latest, and then go back to the START treaty." Get.It.Done. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Lt. Dan Choi Breaks Down

Weighed by growing heartache and his persistent desire to repeal Don't Ask Don't Tell. Andrew Sullivan from Dan Choi : I wanted you to know because you are important to me and I think you can explain my situation best to those in our community who may be still interested. I was involuntarily committed to the Brockton MA Veterans Hospital Physchiatric Ward on Friday Morning after experiencing a breakdown and anxiety attack. ... I did not initially want to publicize this but I now realize it is critical for our community to know several things: veterans gay or straight carry human burdens. Activists share similar burdens, no activist should be portrayed as super human, and the failures of government and national lobbying carry consequences far beyond the careers and reputations of corporate leaders, elected officials, high powered lobbyists, or political elites. They ruin lives. My breakdown was a result of a cumulative array of stressors but there is no doubt that the composi...

Civil Unions in Illinois

Progress Illinois has the story and its significance: Harris, who is one of two openly gay House members, shed tears on the House floor during his dramatic opening statement Tuesday evening. "Once in every generation," he said, "legislatures across the country have a chance to advance the cause of liberty and justice for all." Here's hoping this generation doesn't stop now. It's a welcomed improvement more hopefully to follow. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Get Your Dunkin Friday

Friday is here! And as the day goes I will be raging as normal, you better believe it. Tonight the lady and I will be heading off to Central Illinois and the tomorrow is Illinois homecoming. Our previous plan was to sit in the parking lot and just tailgate, but that has changed. Apparently lady's dad purchased us tickets, so we will be going to the game. ILL-INI! It's a football weekend as I said because the Redskins are coming to Chicago! FRANK IS GOING TO RAGE!! HAIL TO THE REDSKINS! I have never a) been to Soldier Field and b) seen the Bears play, needless to say I will be the one Redskins fan in the stands. Pray for me. In completely unrelated news the video above is rather amazing. As much flack Obama gets from the LGBT community, the fact that he did this video should say a lot. Thank you Mr. President . Sign of The Gaypocalypse

It's beginning, start tasting the rainbow folks... Raw Story : Military recruiters told to accept gay applicants, as gov't appeals court decision A Pentagon spokeswoman says recruiters have been told that they must accept gay applicants, following a federal court decision striking down the ban on gays serving openly in the military. Spokeswoman Cynthia Smith said Tuesday that top-level guidance has been issued to recruiting commands informing them that the military's "don't ask, don't tell" rule has been suspended for now. Recruiters also have been told to inform potential recruits that the moratorium could be reversed at any point. Last week, a federal judge ordered the military to stop enforcing the 1993 law banning openly gay service members. The Justice Department is appealing the decision and has asked for a temporary stay. U.S. District Judge Virginia Phillips said Monday that she was leaning towards denying that stay. Great there goes the marriage a...

Get Your Dunkin Monday

It was a fun filled and packed weekend. I may or may not have drank too much gin/rum/booze. Hooray! Success! The new project is coming into fruition. I am excited to share it with you all hopefully sooner than later. I spent the early morning Saturday working on that, then hit Trader Joe's followed by a night of debauchery. Football Sunday was exhausting. Dear God the Redskins can't make it easy...ever. And how many no-calls is Charles Woodson allowed a game? I think we met the quota, however HAIL TO THE REDSKINS HAIL TO VICTORY!! They pulled it off, in overtime, phew. It was nice to see the Skins hold tough and fight back . Now You Are Getting It

Sullivan is almost there : "The Democrats have been against 'don't ask don't tell' for more than a decade. Why we allowed this law to remain in effect for another two years is beyond me," - a former adviser to President Bill Clinton, whom the WaPo, for no apparent reason, gave anonymity. The answer is not that compex: Rahm Emanuel, Joe Solmonese, head of the Human Rights Campaign, and Barack Obama. If the Dems do not pass this in a lame duck session, or if Obama does not execute a stop-loss order to suspend the ban under his executive authority, we simply have to stop throwing money down the HRC drain, withhold all financial contributions to the DNC, and go back to the streets . You should have never left the streets. Although I am against the idea of refusing to fund what may be your only ally on the Hill, I am all for activism. This has been my complaint with the LGBT community from the start. Politicians aren't the path to equality, YOU are and by YOU ...

Bill Clinton at Netroots Nations answers DADT

Here is former President Bill Clinton in action handling a heckler about Don't Ask Don't Tell. He hits on the historical differences that he faced as President and how sometimes you have to ward off the insane Right to further a progressive agenda. It is amazing how well he answers the questions and recalls what he fought for, but my favorite moment is when he recalls the Gulf War, how many soldiers were kicked out after they served? I had this discussion Tuesday that in order for Obama and his Administration to really push for LGBT rights whether in the military or in marriage, the change must be permanent. The Right will blast it and try to smear out of the community, Congress and the President for poisoning America, but the truth is inequality poisons America, that is a lesson that should have long been learned. The Administration needs to find away to keep the claws away and forever change this stain in American history. And it is my hope this is what they are working on.....

IL Rep. Quiqley rips "Don't Ask Don't Tell"

Image
Rep. Mike Quigley had some choice words for "Don't Ask Don't Tell" in a recent Windy City Times interview calling the act "morally repugnant." It is nice to have a politician from Illinois *cough take note WH, fighting for equal rights for the LGBT community. Quigley kind of snuck into Congress replacing the vacant seat of Rahm Emanuel, but since then he was pushed issues that effect his constituents. He has gone after "Don't Ask Don't Tell" and the White House took note of his request to have same sex unions counted in the census . It is important to note since this weekend Chicago will be holding its annual Gay Pride Parade and it is most likely to be the biggest yet. New local community organizations are participating and even an elementary school is marching in the parade. Quigley is doing what is right here, supporting a part of the community that does many great things locally. He also feels it is only a matter of time till the r...
