Get Your Dunkin Wednesday

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy Last night was a celebratory Drinking Liberally and boy did I drink. The only downside to the entire night was the depressing loss by the Bulls to the Heat . Conclusion; everyone in the bar hates Lebron James. HATES! We're off to California on Saturday, I'm counting down the days. The place is cleaned up and down. Only thing left to do is drive the car to her folks which I'll be doing tomorrow. Hopefully the weather clears up because I hate driving in storms. At least this time the car is equipped with satellite radio and kick ass speakers. Boom baby! Here are your highlights: Democrats: We’ll Use NY-26 Medicare Formula Around The Country , Congrats to Kathy Hogul! Been a long time, Resolution of Regret for the Chinese Exclusion Act Portis to the Giants? Drinking Liberally One Last Time..

Okay, not really. However tonight will be my last Drinking Liberally Chicago with the current lot of misfits, socialists and pinko scum. Coincidently, I'm not the only one who is moving, I just happen to be the first. The crew you see is a changing. I have many a fond memory of DL. It's become something I look forward to every second and fourth Tuesday of the month. It's amazing what can occur after you cautiously sit down with a bunch of strangers. Through the power of booze and politics I found a group of people who can talk about a variety of things intellectually for hours on end. I now proudly call them friends. I can only hope that after some time in Santa Monica, I'll find friends as good as the ones I've made at Drinking Liberally. Here's to Pints & Politics! I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

The Matthew Filipowicz Show

Image
The first episode is now up for your listening pleasure! The Matthew Filipowicz Show will be twice a weekly program full of comedy, progressive politics and great interviews. Matt is a personal friend of mine and was kind enough to ask me to be a contributor on the show. I'll be popping in every now and again as different characters and stuff of that nature. I'm honored to be a part of his inaugural episode and think you all better listen! :) No really, check it out and let us know what you think! The first episode also has an informative interview with acclaimed author Rick Perlstein . I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Get Your Dunkin Friday

I was going to talk about my upcoming weekend here as per custom. Instead I was reading an entry by Angry Black Lady at Balloon Juice, put on my headphones and listened to B. Yung . I was blown away. This is what words can do. When B. Yung uses the words "I'm tired," you understand his exhaustion. It resonates with me now as we are four days away from the impending doom of the election. I'm tired of the nonsense. I'm tired of Republicans. I'm tired of the lies and I'm tired of the media reporting "both sides do it." I'm too tired, yet seeing this video inspires me. It reminds me of why I post to this blog and why I voted early yesterday. We have so much that is yet to be done and we can't let our country fail . As Angry Black Lady says, "It’s about people who have risen above the short stick they drew at birth, and it’s about all those people who have yet to achieve their potential." I couldn't agree more. Here are your hig...

Drink Liberally & Save the Heartland

Received this from our dear leader at Drinking Liberally Chicago Matt Filipowicz: Hey everyone, As you may have heard, the Heartland Cafe up in Rogers Park is in danger of closing . The Heartland Cafe has been, and continues to be, a great friend to Chicago's Drinking Liberally and Laughing Liberally communities. Every month, Laughing Liberally holds its shows at the Heartland owned No Exit Cafe. Last year, we hosted the national Living Liberally conference there. Owners Michael James and Katy Hogan have been nothing but great to us. So this Tuesday October 12th, instead of holding our normal Drinking Liberally at Sheffield's, we're going to be attending the fund-raising benefit at the Heartland . The Heartland is located at 7000 N Glenwood Ave. The benefit starts at 7pm and runs until 11pm. There will be music, speakers, comedy and more. There is a $10 suggested donation. The Heartland has a really solid beer selection, and there is bound to be a ton of great liberals the...

My Drink of Choice

Image
I had the pleasure on my birthday this year to dine at Blue13 in River North . The lady and I had seen the restaurant highlighted on Check Please and thought it was perfect for my particular tastes and style. We couldn't have been more right. The evening began with our drink order and I had seen on Check Please that Blue13 offered Ransom Old Tom Gin , my curiosity got the better of me and I ordered it on the rocks. To my surprise I had found my drink of choice. The taste is unique to anything I have tasted providing a warm feeling throughout. It has less of a juniper taste that most find off putting and instead has citrus notes with a bit of spice. I am not a connoisseur of gin or spirits for that matter, however I know what I like and Ransom's Old Tom Gin is what I like. Tony Sachs at the Huffington Post has a great write-up today about Old Tom Gin re-gaining the hearts of bartenders and offers insight to Ransom's version: But what if you want to go back even further, wa...

Get Your Dunkin Wednesday

So much going on so little time, what to do, what to focus on? Last night was Drinking Liberally Chicago's "War on Christmas." A solid gathering of socialists, commies and pinkos all focused on destroying Christmas and teh baby Jeebus. Nawwww. Actually it was a great time with light debate and friends enjoying many a Christmas ale. I must say, DL Chicago has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. It has opened up new doors and new friendships as well as honest debate. Weird considering I read about it on a blog and kind of just strolled in nonchalantly. Ain't life grand? If you have change to spare please donate to the Living Liberally organization, http://livingliberally.org/Donate Here are your highlights: Senate Dems have reached a tentative health care deal and it isn't as awful as I thought it would be... Our REAL GUVNA is building a legacy its all in the hair, Blago 2012 Math scores up in major cities , amazing what happens when an administration actually c...

Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Ladies and Gentleman hello and get ready for a raucous filled day! Last night was another successful and fun Laughing Liberally with the talented cats from the Accountants of Homeland Security running the funny. I was lucky enough to have the lady accompany me to the Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park where the hippies and socialism lives on. Har har har (socialist pirate laugh). It was a grand old time. Of course classes are kicking my butt...however I will be raging all day as I woke up to nonsense on teevee, a cold front and thinking it was Friday. DEAR LORD WAS I DISAPPOINTED. This weekend is the Drinking Liberally National Leaders Conference, we start at 7pm at our normal joint, Sheffield's. If you get a chance stop by and remember kids, Red, White & Booze. Here are your highlights: Chicago's violence problem is of course linked to poverty , but you won't see get that from the Trib or the local news stations Eric Cantor, unsurprisingly, doesn't get that do what the ...
