Chicago Tribune : A move to abolish the death penalty in Illinois failed by a single vote in the House today. The vote came 10 years after then-Gov. George Ryan first placed a moratorium on the death penalty following revelations that several people sent to Death Row were later exonerated. “We know today that this system is broken beyond repair.
