Despite what the GOP Wants to Believe

The country is confident in our president. Guess it's back to the drawing board... Adam Serwer : I'm not going to comment on this incredibly patronizing Maureen Dowd column demanding the President Obama be everyone's daddy except to say that it seems to be framed around an entirely faulty premise, that Americans think the president is weak on national security. A new CNN poll says otherwise: Nearly two-thirds of people questioned in the poll say they have a moderate or great deal of confidence in the administration to protect the public from future terrorist attacks, up 2 points from August. Thirty-five percent say they have not much or no confidence at all, down 1 point from August. So despite the relentless assault from the torture wing of the GOP, and despite Dowd's demand that the president infantalize the American people, Americans are still confident in Obama's ability to protect them. Michelle Malkin still trying to hock here failed book about "fearing the brown people" is in a fuss about 9/10 (without one mention of who was in office). Yes she thinks we are back to scary days when racial profiling was consider bad practices. A. Sewer administers the take down: ...it's impossible to get good human intelligence if people see you as the enemy. Were the government to adopt a policy of racial profiling as Malkin suggests, it would alienate the population we're depending on to feed us information about potential attacks. Also, if you're worrying about ethnicity rather than evidence, you're going to waste a lot of resources chasing innocent people. So not only is racial profiling morally reprehensible, it's also just a bad policy. Unless of course, you see all Muslims as the enemy and you want to punish them for simply existing.
