There's Always Another Century

And insert other stupidly pathetic Cubs jokes here. Only one team wins each year, it's just taken us longer to get back there. Insert your next lame Cubs joke here. Feel better? The season has begun and this one feels more like a Cubs season. I don't have any high expectations nor am I waiting for every word to come out of the managers mouth. In fact I can't even recall the last time I heard the Cubs' manager speak. I think that's fine because that's how being a Cubs fan really goes (for me at least and no I'm not fairweather, I'll still follow the Cubs and see plenty games). I know it's hard for those neanderthal and small-minded South Siders to comprehend, but there's more to the game than simply winning. I am Frank Chow and I'm okay with waiting another year

The Card Has Fallen

ESPN : Mark McGwire finally came clean, admitting he used steroids when he broke baseball's home run record in 1998. McGwire said in a statement sent to The Associated Press on Monday that he used steroids on and off for nearly a decade. During a 20-minute telephone interview shortly afterward, his voice repeatedly cracked. "It's very emotional, it's telling family members, friends and coaches, you know, it's former teammates to try to get a hold of, you know, that I'm coming clean and being honest," he said. "It's the first time they've ever heard me, you know, talk about this. I hid it from everybody." Time to put a major asterisk on baseball. McGwire is merely a product of the culture that baseball allowed to seep into its hallowed halls. Now that he is admitted to using, who is next? The Rocket? Bonds? Sosa? The Incredible Hulk? Hawk to the Hall of Fame

Congrats to Andre Dawson being elected into the Hall of Fame . All by himself too! One of my fondest childhood memories was the first Cubs game I ever attended. I think I was 9 or so. I can recall the smells of the game, the sight of the Ivy and the striped uniforms the Cubs wore that day. We were way up in the nose bleeds, but the memory of the entire experience is what keeps me going to the games to this day. The crack of the bat. The yelling by the vendors. And the roar from the crowd bouncing off the buildings on Sheffield and Waveland. There really is no feeling like it. Dawson was the hero of the game that day, he hit a two run shot against the Phillies late in the game, while also sealing my fate as lifelong Cubs fan. It is nice to see Dawson, the man who defines Cubs players for me, finally get his due. I am Frank Chow and I approved this message
