From the Mix Tape - Andrew Bird
Andrew Bird, need I say more? 2012 is looking to be a fantastic music year. And if you fancy the art, it's done by one of the most amazing artists from Illinois, Jay Ryan.

Teh Funny Writes Itself
Not only is Obama teh devil and hates teh Jeebus, but also too and what have you, he is pushing the most aggressive liberal policies ever and destroying the country. ON TOP OF THAT, he is guilty of being completely incapable of performing his basic duties as president, a "new-hire college graduate" and surrounded by lazies.
It has become increasingly difficult to write satire these days. I can't tell if the right-wing in America is attempting to out crazy comedians in order to render the jokes useless or the scarier and more likely; they have lost their minds and now fully embrace it.

Back to the gggggrind. I guess people didn't purchase enough booze last week because my hours have been cut short. Doh. I do have an interview though today, so that hopefully will lead to something promising. Franky needs income. We're getting married in four months, crazy, and I need to get a sweet set-up for the wedding. I'll be posting about the choice when it happens, that and trying to lose a couple of L Bs for the big day. Gotta get that six pack!

Apologies folks for the late post. I was flying over the country this morning. The lady and I after 10 days in Chicago are back in good ole Santa Monica. Unfortunately the sun didn't greet us here when we landed. Oh well, it's better than snow, right?! I've got a busy week ahead of me; work, interview, recording skits and hopefully writing a ton. After watching the Oscars last night I was inspired to try to push through some recent lulls in my writing. Hopefully Hollywood is ready for "the Artist 2: More Arty" (title a work in progress).

Yesterday were our tastings for both the desserts and the wedding dinner. Wow. I'm still full. Overall, it was a great experience finally trying out menu items, figuring out what we liked and didn't like...surprisingly enough I enjoyed the dessert tasting the most. I'm no sweets guy, but trying six different cakes and a ton of cookies was a heckuva way to spend a Wednesday. It all seems to be coming together quite well. We also were allowed, a last minute walk around of the event space for our reception. It was our first time seeing the venue at night and it was breathtaking. I think it's safe to say, the party is going to rock!

So we're back in Chicago! And we've already come to the conclusion that we've become "soft." It's cold here, but our old Chicagoan-selves would be calling the current weather "warm." It's funny how after only 7 months in Santa Monica I have no desire to relocate somewhere cold if I don't have to...no seriously. The first weekend of Pre-Canna is complete, I'll spare you the details. We did meet some lovely people though, and it's great to be thinking in four months I'll be a married man.

Yesterday was good times. I actually had an audition where I played basketball for most of the day. Not too bad. If I get the gig, I'll be acting across a well-known basketball player (not Lin)...which would be awesome. We'll see. Everyone yesterday and I mean everyone was joking about Jeremy Lin. Linsanity! It's a great phenomena happening right now, I hope the kid makes the right choices and has a long career in the NBA. We head to Chicago tomorrow, I can't wait. It'll be nice to run around planning for our wedding and hanging out with old pals. As for today, I've got work to do!

Trans-Atlantic Throwdown - Episode 10: Best of 2011
A mere seven or eight weeks since 2012 began, Paddy and Frank have finally navigated the scheduling difficulties of working multiple jobs on opposite ends of the country and bring you a summary of all the stuff they liked best about 2011. Better late than never! With help from contributors Greg, iDan, Petey Pablo, Sara and Tom, the guys recap the best in music, movies, and life events. Featuring music from Boris, Feist, Graf Orlock, TV on the Radio, Caveman, Real Estate, Girls, and others. As an added bonus, this episode comes chock full of horrible impressions of James Blake and Bon Iver, “best of” lists made by people who don’t even know the Beastie Boys and New Found Glory were still alive, and moon colonies.

"Wow. Whitney Houston." That's what I said when I first received the news on Saturday. Another icon, her life tragically ended too soon. I kept thinking to myself about specific moments in my life when her songs played and how it immediately took me back. What's astounding about Whitney Houston is that world-wide hundreds of millions of people could do the same. That's Whitney Houston's legacy. I still remember her rendition of the national anthem before the Super Bowl. We heard nothing like it before and nothing even close since, it was how the sung was to be sung. It's always sad to hear about an icon's passing, her unfortunate decline, but I'll remember Whitney Houston for her voice and presence. One that artists long after I'm gone will still be attempting to emulate without coming close.

From the Mix Tape - the Promise Ring
I've revisited this album Wood/Water recently. I kind of stumbled upon it while listening to other bands of the like, Benton Falls, Hot Rod Circuit, Elliott and Christie Front Drive. I recall when it was released initially blowing it off because "how dare they not be happy sounding?!" Timing with albums, such as this, I guess is everything. I appreciate it much more today then I would have then. There's a melancholy throughout the album I'm drawn to, it's not completely hopeless and that bit of optimism appeals to me.
Enjoy this lovely live rendition of "Become One Anything One Time." This might be my favorite lead singer with a speech impediment.

Ruining Marriage
In amongst the Prop8 ruling in California, we get this about the decline of marriage rates from Paul Krugman.
Krugman goes onto explain that what really may be going on here is the decline of earned income (he has a graph too).
Should we really be surprised that young men, confronting the reality that they won’t earn anything near as much in real terms as their fathers did — and that they will be even further from having what society sees as an adequate income, because even Adam Smith acknowledged the importance of social norms in defining prosperity — don’t marry and raise families the way the previous generation did?
So what's really ruining marriage in America, teh evil icky gay or perhaps terrible economic policies?
I'd have to go with that latter. Over the years, we've had policies that have hindered men and women from committing to a relationship because they lack the "adequate income" to start and raise a family. It's a tough decision, one that I personally went through and one I don't wish on others. We shouldn't have wages on the decline in 2012, just like we shouldn't be voting on whether two people in-love can marry.

The Giants did it again! Incredible, but sadly predictable, that's what they did all year...except against the Redskins. This obviously means the Redskins are the Ultimate Super Bowl Champions for defeating the Giants twice in the season! It was clear not having a healthy Gronkowski and a poor secondary killed the Patriots and a few crucial drops at the end hurt their chances late, but Eli did his Eli thing. He was cool as a cucumber back there and Manningham made a phenomenal catch to seal the win. Exciting game which is really all I wanted to see.
