Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Insert your boot straps cliche here! The day of depression is over and it's time to get back to work . Progress didn't happen in two years at the speed some might have liked, but it doesn't mean we stop trying to achieve progress. Last night was a somber Laughing Liberally, but the comedians did try their best to lighten the mood one day removed from the infamous " shellacking ." Alderman Joe Moore was interviewed and he reiterated that this has happened before in our history and progressives bounce back. The Democratic Party will bounce back and maybe one day our leaders will learn that the " center " isn't the answer. So what now? Get involved if you aren't already. MoveOn , Bold Progressives , ActBlue , ACLU ,and Asian Pacific Americans for Progress to start. There are many out there who were grinding it out during the Bush years and aren't throwing in the towel. I don't hear a fat lady singing, do you? Don't forget the Trans-At...

Get Your Dunkin Friday

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news , world news , and news about the economy It's Friday!!! Yes!! I know it was a short week for us Uhmerikans, however I injured my back on Monday and this week has been a long stretch of ughhhhhhh. So in the past three weeks I have been dealing with a swollen left knee and now a strained back. It is quite frustrating as it as stalled my workouts and knock my endorphins down. Hopefully this weekend I can play basketball...and get some sort of rebound (wooha pun intended). Football started last night and although the game began well it slowly began looking like most game one's, a little rusty. Congrats to the Saints though, the city deserves all that is happening with that football team. Redskins against Cowgirls Sunday Night . Time to Fight for Old DC!!! Here are your highlights: Judge rules "Don't Ask Don't Tell" Unconstitutional Cool. Voltron USB actually assembles ...ok not really, but still cool. Megan McArdle wrong again. M...

Building a Bridge to Somewhere

If you repair roads, railway and bridges you boost the economic situation. It is just that simple. The other option is dirt roads and well...not much: Bonddad : If the US gets to the point where the only transportation line connecting two cities is a dirt road, the US will be in extreme trouble. And that's where the "infrastructure is not economically viable" crowd is leading the country. I heard on the Today show today a commentator from CNBC attempting to defend the Wall St. overlords to the effect that confidence is key to recovery and Wall St. provides confidence. She then pontificated about how Main Street can't blame Wall St. I tend to disagree with such an assertion, mainly because it is full of shit. Our government and leaders have spent more time appeasing white collar jobs and Wall St . then worrying about the middle class and viable infrastructure jobs. You want confidence? Build stuff. Pay people and then repeat. It isn't difficult. Until we forget abo...

The last week of Insanity and boy am I excited! It has been a long fought battle, but the lady and I will have won the war!!! You will never take my Ransom Gin SHAUN T!!! I will share the final results on this here thing once we are done. To be honest, I wasn't too disciplined with taking my measurements or weight week to week. I felt it would get me obsessed with the wrong results. I can say, my waist is smaller, my shoulders are getting defined and I may or may not have an ab. Yesh, just one. This weekend I survived the IKEA MONSTER , barely and the lady was kind of enough to beat me with a hammer while we put together her new bar. Not gonna lie it was awesome. Hope everyone else had a chipper weekend. Here are your highlights: Obama does the right thing and tells everyone we have a Constitution that allows FREEDOM of religion Redskins Preseason began on the right foot. Hail to the Redskins! Pakistan devastated by floods Chicago Tribune still wants to dismantle the CTA . Missin...

I am weak! The lady and I had a splendid weekend, don't get me wrong, but I ate whatever was in front of me. Cupcakes? Check. Twizzlers? Check. Peanut Butter Cups? Check. Moussaka? Check and double check. And now I feel terrible, but it was SO GOOD! Aye there's the rub. After a month and half of INSANITY, the lady and threw our hands in there and were like "meh why not?" We earned it, right? Well yes we have earned, but damn do I feel guilty, so this week is going to be full on INSANITY on top of INSANITY! Honestly I can't wait to be done. Two more weeks and then I will share my results with ya'll. Thus far I have been more than satisfied and now it is a matter of kissing the gut goodbye and starting to develop a "Situation." Ok not that ridic, but seriously only.two.more.weeks. Here are your highlights: Food Stamps or Teachers? If only Ben Bernanke was running the Fed... Avoiding a retread of last August is key for Democrats Round-Up of the Boxing ...

Can We Get a Redo?

If you want to know where Obama really went wrong look no further than Larry Summers. Atrios : Don't Listen To The Girlymaths Oh well . Romer had run simulations of the effects of stimulus packages of varying sizes: six hundred billion dollars, eight hundred billion dollars, and $1.2 trillion. The best estimate for the output gap was some two trillion dollars over 2009 and 2010. Because of the multiplier effect, filling that gap didn’t require two trillion dollars of government spending, but Romer’s analysis, deeply informed by her work on the Depression, suggested that the package should probably be more than $1.2 trillion. The memo to Obama, however, detailed only two packages: a five-hundred-and-fifty-billion-dollar stimulus and an eight-hundred-and-ninety-billion-dollar stimulus. Summers did not include Romer’s $1.2-trillion projection. The memo argued that the stimulus should not be used to fill the entire output gap; rather, it was “an insurance package against catastrophic...

It's here! Friday! This week has dragged the eff on. Not sure why that is, but here we are with two glorious days around the bend. Lil Sis Frank heads back to California on Tuesday, so we are going to have a get together in honor of her b-day and internship coming to close. WE WILL MISS YOU LIL SIS! In other news it has been an up and down week for me and Insanity. With my schedule getting messed up I don't think I have been performing the workout at my best. Odd thing, the lady says I am looking smaller everyday. Only two more weeks left and then what? Well the lady I will take a recovery week, I will eat some fuggin Chinese and then back at it, but only 5 days a week instead of 6. Yes, I am sold on this change in my life and can't wait to be in the next John Wu film. Here are your highlights: Prop8 supporters zealots till the end ( h/t Roger Ebert) What's going on with Google and Verizon? Ben Nelson and Blanche Lincoln the worst kind of politicians. So Close Yet So Far Away

The problem has been for some time that we have people in the administration and various departments; who can read the data, understand the data and even correlate it to history. However, not one of these people understand nor empathize with the unemployed and poor thus missing the most obvious connection. They paint it is a "skills issue" or "generational issue". It is a matter of company's "waiting" for things to turn around. Insert other our hands our tied rhetoric with slight glimmers of optimism throughout here. The truth is they don't get it and so we are fucked. Not screwed, but fucked. And I do not apologize for the graphic nature of that sentence because it is not meant for those who want to be coddled or for the faint of heart. It is 2010, the unemployed are not the ones who need to "re-enter the 21st century." I am Frank Chow and I approved this message Update : Krugman agrees : Do they really think this will work? I mean, I ...

A Lesson in Numbers

Bonddad : Here's my two cents. This new argument for "austerity" is bullshit. First, the US has had a severe structural deficit for the last 10 years. Here is the total debt outstanding from the Bureau of Public Debt for the years 2000-2009 : 09/30/2009 11,909,829,003,511.75 09/30/2008 10,024,724,896,912.49 09/30/2007 9,007,653,372,262.48 09/30/2006 8,506,973,899,215.23 09/30/2005 7,932,709,661,723.50 09/30/2004 7,379,052,696,330.32 09/30/2003 6,783,231,062,743.62 09/30/2002 6,228,235,965,597.16 09/30/2001 5,807,463,412,200.06 09/30/2000 5,674,178,209,886.86 Notice this started a long time ago. Yet suddenly everyone is up in arms about the deficit. Please. Secondly, the complete denial about the important beneficial effects of government spending (especially infrastructure spending and unemployment benefits) is maddening. Regrettably, everyone now talks in sound bites instead of facts. So here's a few inconvenient facts. 1.) The US economy grew at a solid ra...

Well what did I miss? World Cup? Boxing? Nope saw those and although the final was underwhelming Fight Night was fantastic! Juan Manuel Lopez puts on a heckuva show, even if it was only two rounds. In other news I started week four of INSANITY today. I woke up early and tried to do the morning workout thing. Not sure how people do it. I spent most of the workout trying to come to. The whole time I felt I was half awake, but I was sweating and huffing and puffing, so I assume I got my work in. I get to go in late to work today. Probably will do the following: nothing. LOL. The lady starts her new job today, send positive thoughts her way! Here are your highlights: Arne Duncan: Schools need funding Shouldn't the rich pay higher taxes? Teabaggers need training before they are let outside again Jobs, Jobs, Jobs FACT CHECK! The sad state of the morning shows, thank god for Rachel Maddow The Feckless Fed : Bernanke I am told is a genius. I am still awaiting a single stroke of genius. ...
