More on Off Shore Drilling

Digby thinks it is egos run wild and a terrible mistake. Steve Benen reports it might be part of an increasingly persistent strategy to alienate the GOP further and expose them as cornered in by their right wing.

Chait I believe painted this pretty well a month or so ago. It's all goes back to the "Obama Method."

And MSNBC points out, Obama is just doing what he said he would.

I would like to know what the "bigger plan" is in all of this, as I said on Twitter today.

I for one am only going to support an Avatar living. We must be one with nature. No gas, no drilling, no coal. Only blue people and until Obama shows me he gets that. I will never be satisfied.

Tonight is a big night for a comedic brother in arms. Mike Stanley will be premiering a documentary starring himself called, "Salty Language, Peppered Morals" at the Lakeshore Theater. It was filmed by Andrew Zeiter and follows Stanley through the trials and tribulations of comic on his way to compete for $10,000 in the Boston Comedy Festival. This is a big moment for Mike Stanley, so if you get a chance come out and support one of the best comics in Chicago, plus it is free. I have heard great things about the documentary as it gives a realistic take on the hardships of a comic grinder and it also will include live stand-up by Mike Stanley, James Fritz and Brendan McGowan. Solid stuff. A couple of more days to plug through this week and then a trip to the lady's for Easter. Almost to the home stretch.

Survive the Circa

A new track is available for listening on Circa Survive's site. It is called "Imaginary Enemy."

I am one who believes Circa Survive has yet to live up to their hype. I have seen them live, purchased their releases and generally would say I have kept up to date with their happenings, all in all you could say I am fan. However, I still feel like they are missing something. I don't see what sets them apart from a million different bands. My only loyalty to them is my feigned nostalgia when I hear Anthony Green yelp. It reminds me of the potential I heard in his previous band Saosin.

After a couple of listens to "Imaginary Enemy" I feel as if Anthony Green's solo endeavors have helped Circa Survive craft better melodies in their songwriting. I have only heard two tracks off their yet to be released album, but if this is a sign of things to come I might give them a more attentive ear.

It is a much needed glance at what Spring may bring. The lady and I were enamored last night with Chuck and Castle. Both quality episodes that had us at the edge of our Monday night seats. I made a Teriyaki chicken with fried rice (pre-made not enough time to cook fresh) and spiced everything up with Siracha. Pretty awesome and all under 30 minutes, if you leave out the marinating of the chicken. I think over the next couple of months I am going to try to perfect my own version of Siracha, the heat is perfect in that sauce, but adding some sweet to it would better suit the lady and I's palettes. Who Wants Tax Cuts?

Jonathan Chait finds an interesting poll:

Quinnipiac has a new poll out on the deficit. The results may not surprise. By more than a three-to-one margin, the public opposes "cutting the growth of spending" on Medicare or Social Security benefits, or any tax increase on the middle class. What specific measure do they support? Raising taxes on the rich. 60% of the public says we should raises taxes on households earning more than $250,000 a year. 72% want to raise taxes on households earning more than $1 million.

Interestingly, 42% of Republicans favor a tax hike on $250,000 households, and 56% of them favor a tax hike on households earning over a million. But zero percent of Republican elected officials in Washington favor this approach. Indeed, the Republican Party's current plans all involve large tax cuts for high-income households.

Maybe America is getting it after all...Chait goes onto explain that this won't solve everything, but at least ridding America of the burden of the Bush Tax Cuts would resolve some injustice in our tax system. American's might just be revealing they do care about tax cuts for the rich, taxing them more that is and that although populist is in the right direction.

Oh and the Republican party is not listening to the American people. Yet again. Can you tell I hate today?

Friday Fashion Blogging

In two weeks I am attending a premiere for a film I happen to be in. I am wondering how I should approach the event style wise. So I thought why not take some cues from Hollywood and see how the big dogs roll up to the red carpet (although there will be no red carpet for me and a lot less people and cameras and fan fare and well...none of it)

My lady suggests I kick it George Clooney style. Black on black, sophisticated and simple. But where do I hide my flask?

Perhaps the monochromatic look sported by Brad Pitt. I quite like this, but I think if I showed up with sunglasses I would get my ass whoop'd. Just saying, Chicago is not LA.

This is the exact opposite of what I was thinking of...

More gray, it is early spring, and I do own a three piece. However I am not David Beckham...I can still play soccer cuz my Achilles is just fine (too soon?).

Finally I could go the casual route and not look like a pretentious actor. Yes I understand that being an actor being pretentious is a default, but no reason to stigmatize the stereotype further, right? I think I will go this route to a degree. Perhaps switch the vest with a suit jacket and forgo the chain fob.

Well that's all I got this week. Till next time rock the eff on!

Gosh Darnit Those Facts Again

After all the huffing and puffing from the Right about civilian trials, the Justice Department finally got fed up and presented facts. Turns out hundreds of terrorists have been convicted in civilian trials. Pwn'd.

Greg Sargent
:

An extensive new chart compiled by the Obama Justice Department, drawing on Bush adminstration records, shows hundreds of terror suspects have been convicted in civilian courts — directly contradicting claims by Bush/Cheney officials to the contrary.

In recent weeks, Bush/Cheney officials have fanned out to argue that the Obama administration’s decision to try terror suspects in civilian courts is a danger to the republic. When Obama officials point out that hundreds of terrorists were successfully prosecuted that way under Bush, the Bushies and Cheneyites have dismissed the claim as bunk.

Now, in its most comprehensive pushback to date, the Justice Department has produced a detailed accounting of hundreds of such prosecutions in chart form. It was sent over by a source and can be viewed right here

Tired of Hearing It

I haven't been able to post much today, but between reading Twitter, Facebook and now Eric Cantor's whimpering I am sick and tired of the Republican Party not accepting responsibility. No, I do not think the Republican party needs to apologize for every right wing nut, however there is a direct correlation between their incendiary rhetoric and the aggression that has been hurled toward members of the Democratic party. They have brought up death panels, bankrupting our children, stealing of our country, government takeover, putting people in cross hairs, and the loss of freedom. Exaggerated speech, after exaggerated speech followed by inconceivable hints of revolutionary warfare by the likes of Rep. Steven King of Iowa. The both sides do it argument does not apply here.

My lady and I were witness to the vitriol nature of the Tea Parties last August in Columbus, OH. I know first hand who attended the rallies, what they are capable of and what kind of intimidation tactics they are willing to propagate. There is nothing over this past year or during the election that comes close to the Tax Tea Party on the Left or in the Democratic Party.

There needs to be a change in the Republican party soon and it doesn't begin with false equivalencies. It begins from within and finally being the party that says "no" to the fringe elements in their party instead of "yes" to hate. This is how a lone wolf finds a pack. This is how an insane recluse individual finds justification for lunatic fantasies. It has to stop. If not now, then when? When will it be enough?

It went okay until the part where me and some other guy were supposed to improv a "discussion" about a topic. As we began the dude went into his routine. Literally every word that came out of his mouth was like scripted Vince Vaughn-esqe stuff. So much for working together, having a discussion or you know improv-ing. Oh well it served him well as you can't fault a guy for sticking to his guns. It was only my third call back of this magnitude, so I would chalk it up to a good learning experience. Never expect the other guy to be a team player, lesson learned. The lady is still fighting a cold. We are going to be keeping it chill tonight and probably the rest of the weekend. It is beyond reprehensible, there has to be some talk back, but it doesn't look like the Republicans are grown up enough to do that. This does not look to end well.

A Win for Green Arrow

If you check my "currently reading", I just finished a classic mash-up of Green Arrow and Green Lantern. The comic was written in the 70's, it is full of cheesy dialog, corny stereotypes and a version of Hal Jordan that I am glad does not exist anymore. The work, however is still relevant.

As I peeled through the pages, I was pleasantly surprised to find out Green Arrow was a full on dirty hippie fighting against the social injustices in America. He brings to light for Green Lantern (pun intended) the various wrongs going about in America at the time. Whether it was racial, societal or economical; Green Arrow is a champion for progressive issues throughout. He fights with Green Lantern to expose a land deal upending Native American rights, he exposes a landlord who abuses the poor and conducts backdoor deals, and he proves the importance of workers' rights in a small mining town just to name a few. It is only reasonable to conclude that health care reform is something Green Arrow would have backed wholeheartedly.

Forgiving the dated catch phrases and dialog, I couldn't help but appreciate the impact the comic must of had for young readers. Comics have long been more progressive in respect to currents events. I think there is something to be said for that. Perhaps it lies in the premise of many comics. Heroes. Villains. Fighting against injustice. Mutants (relates to those left out, the others). Enhanced super humans. It all leads to a bunch of dirty hippies with the hope and will for a better world.

I am not saying all those who write or read comics are hippies ex. Alan Moore. I am saying that it is an under appreciated aspect of the comic medium and that 1970's Green Arrow was right.

End of Days

Boo Man has a prediction:

Thus, we close the book on an era of endless onslaught on liberal ideology that began on election night in 1980. For thirty years, liberals were on the defensive. Today, we are back on the offensive. Republicans will have to adjust to an entirely new paradigm. It will take them some time to come to terms with the size of their defeat. We can perhaps evaluate the Republicans' behavior using the KĂĽbler-Ross Model known as the five stages of grief. The Republicans have been in denial for a long time, and they've been angry ever since they lost the presidential election. They began bargaining at Obama's health care summit, where they asked repeatedly for us to 'start over from scratch with a blank piece of paper." The next stage is depression: "We can't repeal it, our country has been taken away from us."

In reality, the Republicans will stay angry for a long time. They have no intention of reaching 'acceptance.' But they have no chance of undoing these reforms, and they will soon realize that a huge percentage of what future congresses will do will be to provide oversight and adjustments to the health care system. The government will be constantly looking for ways to make health care plans more consumer friendly and less costly to the budget. They will not be trying to take health care away from people.

The longer it takes the Republicans to realize this, the more credit the Democrats will get for having passed these reforms. When Republicans complain about the mandate and score political points, the Democrats will offer to create a public option as the only solution to the problem. They are trapped.

This is precisely why they fought against even these modest reforms. We do live in a different country today than we did yesterday. It's a country that has no use for the old Republican Party.

One can hope Boo Man is right. (Bolding by yours truly)

It is a brand new day. Health Care Reform passed the House with the reconciliation fixes and there is cause for much rejoicing (and a huge sigh of relief). Now it is the Senate's turn to finish the job and then finally the bill will be sent to President Obama's desk to be signed into law. It has been a long fought battle, one with many unforeseen twists and turns, but ultimately what matters is that the bill passed. And history will be kind to the result. There is much to improve on the bill and so even though I woke up today with an extra skip in my step, I know this is far from over. Nonetheless, hope can be a great thing as it is no longer "Yes We Can!", but "Yes We Did!" On a personal note, I am feeling better. The cough is still lingering in my chest. Stupak

It is hard for me to understand one man railroading health care reform because of his own inability to understand the abortion language in the Senate bill. So either we have a man who is sincerely blinded by his own convictions OR there is an outlying factor motivating his temperament towards reform. At this point I would say it is the latter which makes the drama of tomorrow all the more enticing and the outcome for Stupak uncertain.

Ensign Should Have an EA Sports Game

Then maybe we would hear about this shit. Question, is Sen. John Ensign going to be forced to resign?

David Kurtz of TPM:

Reports last night in Las Vegas and this afternoon in DC suggest that the FBI's investigation into Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) is the real deal. At issue is whether Ensign did anything criminally wrong as he tried to extricate himself from his affair with his campaign staffer, the wife of his Senate staffer, and then help the husband find employment and business opportunities elsewhere. My sense initially was that the investigation might be a bit of a stretch, where the FBI would take a quick look and determine there wasn't enough there to pursue. But clearly that's not what has happened.

Why is this not in Inquirer or on US Weekly? The main reason; Ensign doesn't play golf, he is a Republican and he is part of "the Family." This story however is bad as it gets. Asking your parents to pay of your mistress' husband....dude....this should at least be a Lifetime movie.

Possible Titles:

Nevada Nights: Senatorial Love Affair
Hot & Heavy, Where's my Daddy?
Cash Affair, The John Ensign Story
A Senator and the Hot Seat

Sample Awesome Dialog:

Ensign: Dad, I need your wallet and a morning after pill

Mistress: You stole my heart, but you better get my husband a well paying job, 401k plan and dental!

Ensign's Father: Son, this is worse than that time you slept with the principal's wife on prom night

Ensign (during passion scene): I am going to filibust you all night!

Selling Out Wrigley Field

(proposal illustration via the Chicago Tribune)

This is not a good idea:

The Chicago Cubs, in search of new advertising revenues, have asked the City of Chicago for permission to erect a 360-square-foot billboard above the left-field bleachers at Wrigley Field, an alderman said Wednesday.

The proposed sign would be 74 feet above the ground, altering the look of the team's historic stadium.

Because Wrigley Field is designated a landmark, new signage has to receive governmental approval. The Sun-Times first reported that the Cubs have filed a permit application with the city.
While the city has approved signage on the outfield walls and on the brick wall down the third base line, the proposed billboard is "definitely new territory," said Ald. Tom Tunney (44th ward), who oversees the ward where Wrigley Field is located.

The height of the signage will be a concern, he said. Tunney wants to make sure the proposed billboard will not block fans' views of the surrounding neighborhood.

I don't know what else to say, but NO! I understand that need to make revenue, but this will be a stain on the aesthetic of Wrigley. I attend anywhere between 5 to 10 games a season depending on scheduling. Part of the appeal of Wrigley is its throwback feel. When you enter the park you understand baseball and you understand the Cubs. Slopping some awkward advertisement would not only be tacky, but would infuriate fans like myself who come to Wrigley seeking commonplace in fandom and an escape from the normal FedEX/United/M&T Bank/CapitalOne stadiums already across the states in various sports.

Here are some alternate ways for the Cubs organization to bring in some revenue:

- Charge every idiot who walks in with racist Fukudome apparel an extra $100
- Replace the clunky tube teevees and get up to date flat screens in the park, then charge advertisers to place ads there.
- Stop making deals for the Milton Bradley's of the world
- Get companies to sponsor sections of the stadium. Those seats then are ads for that company
- Add more bleachers to that side of the field, then follow the aforementioned approach
- Charge Cardinals fans triple
- And finally buy the damn building that has the stupid Horseshoe Casino sign and get on with it!

Have any more? Let me know!

Blanche's Gut

Blanche Lincoln says she wasn't "lobbied" by Obama.

Senatus:

President Barack Obama “hasn’t reached out to lobby Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) on healthcare, the senator said Wednesday,” according to The Hill.

"I made it pretty clear that I didn’t support reconciliation," Lincoln said during an appearance on MSNBC, by way of offering a reason as to why the president would let her be. "I think he hates asking people to do things contrary to what their gut tells them to do."

Lincoln said she “hadn’t spoken to Obama on the phone about healthcare, though at some point during the healthcare process, she reached out to the president and sought a meeting with him.

Self-serving Senators like Lincoln who offer roadblocks as bargaining chips then expect some kind of catering by the administration baffle me. The very idea that Obama doesn't like forcing people to go against their gut is baseless. I would chalk it up to logic; why negotiate with a lost cause Senator from a red state? It makes no sense, jut like her opposition to reconciliation. I will be glad when she loses, regardless of who it is to, but if you like you can donate to Bill Halter so she gets a run for her money.

As you can tell I am kind of scattered and all over the place. But I will rage on cuz that's how I roll.

Here are your highlights:

CNN stooping to new hiring lows. I am not sure what kind of job has one of their requirements as "have you called a Supreme Court Justice a goat f**ker?" But apparently that is the standard set at CNN.

Moderate Dems are waffling while people suffer. Example: California where 1 in 4 now lack proper health care coverage. Note to waffling Dems who say they get calls from their constituents trying to kill the bill...YOUR CONSTITUENTS ARE WRONG

Setting This Straight

Byron Tau from The New Republic explains why the House "deem and pass" is not so damn awful as everyone says:

Okay, so here’s how the “deem-and-pass” procedure would actually work. The House Rules committee is often called the “traffic cop” of the House – controlling what bills come to the floor and how much debate is allowed on each one. On each bill, they pass what is called a “rule” – a resolution determining what kind of debate is allowed on each bill. The whole House must first pass the rule, then the underlying legislation. In the case of “deem-and-pass,” the vote on the rule would also have the effect of passing the Senate bill. According to the CRS report linked above, the House has used this procedure at least six times between 1989 and 2005 with both parties in charge.

To be sure, this isn’t the most straightforward of parliamentary procedural processes to explain to the average American. At the same time, most of the news reports dealing with the procedure don’t even attempt to explain either the process itself or the context of its use. Very few of the news stories or editorials even mention the Rules committee’s complex role in shaping bills and managing votes.

If the GOP insists on having a debate over process instead of substance, Beltway scribes should at least inject a little more nuance and a lot more context in their reporting.

And Josh Marshall catches Eric Cantor taking the cake. There is a lot of nonsense out there, but why would anyone fault Pelosi or the White House on actually trying to get the bill passed by any means necessary? I know, I know this is not tax cuts for the rich, this is a health care giveaway to free-loaders and degenerates, however it is pretty clear all the huff and puff isn't about much. The GOP hasn't played fair since day one, it is about time the Dems show mettle.

Health care reform is vital to the health of the Nation. No one outside the Beltway and Capital journalists will remember how it was passed. So, I Frank Chow deem this part of the debate over.

Update
: Paul Krugman ads this sentiment:

A Choice of Headlines

By this time next week we’ll have seen huge headlines about health care. These headlines will either read “Democrats do it!”, followed by various Republicans and their apologists complaining that what the Dems did wasn’t nice, or “Democrats — losers again”, followed by Republicans going bwahahaha.

And it’s up to a handful of Democrats to decide which headlines we get. They’re out of their minds if they don’t choose door #1.

I have a hard time believing the millions uninsured care about the electoral meaning of "deem and pass" and how reconciliation hurts Davey Brooks' feelings.

I feel better today than I did yesterday. That's a plus, what's not a plus is that Castle last night was a re-run and although I appreciate the beauty of one Alyssa Milano it put a damper on my evening. It should be a rule that any show as fun to watch as Chuck or Castle runs straight through its season. Even if the Super Bowl is supposed to air. Believe you me I would DVR the Super Bowl (unless of course the Redskins were playing) and watch Chuck and Castle. It's not to say other shows out there don't offer the same substance, but I can't think of any shows sans Food Network that consistently deliver. AND don't try to argue that against me, you will lose just like the Ring will lose to Charles Carmichael and just like Castle and Beckett will eventually get together.

Here are your highlights:

Yo I got my Ipad! And it is blingin. Here is the thing, I am going to purchase an Ipad in the future. I have been anticipating this reader/touch screen laptop for quite some time. It fits into my lifestyle. I commute to work by CTA or Metra. My rides can be long, but I always get a seat, so in theory the Ipad fits into how I commute and communicate. I don't need phone capabilities of the Iphone ( I prefer Verizon), plus I have larger hands which means this touch screen might better suit me anyway. If I am the only who packs one I am fine with that.

Not a Good Business Model

I don't want to harp on the downfall of print media, but this is rather revealing.

AP:

Getting people to pay for news online at this point would be "like trying to force butterflies back into their cocoons," a new consumer survey suggests.

That was one of several bleak headlines in the Project for Excellence in Journalism's annual assessment of the state of the news industry, released Sunday.

The project's report contained an extensive look at habits of the estimated six in 10 Americans who say they get at least some news online during a typical day. On average, each person spends three minutes and four seconds per visit to a news site.

About 35 percent of online news consumers said they have a favorite site that they check each day. The others are essentially free agents, the project said. Even among those who have their favorites, only 19 percent said they would be willing to pay for news online – including those who already do.

There's little brand loyalty: 82 percent of people with preferred news sites said they'd look elsewhere if their favorites start demanding payment.

This isn't unexpected. The proposed idea of making your readers pay for online news is a "too late to the party" idea. Why in anyone's right mind would you want to pay, when we have been receiving the content for free for so long? I would chalk this up to being ill-prepared and out of touch which pretty much sums up the newspapers' problems.

(on my ipod this morning)

It was a quick paced and friendly weekend and then I got sick. I did, however make it through Dim Sum in Chinatown which was crucial. But then it hit me. I have felt like I was fighting off a cold for the past week or so. Finally later in the afternoon on Sunday "boom went the dynamite." Not too bad just rather fatigued, mucus filled coughing and random body temperature changes. Luckily for me (knock on wood) I have an arsenal of Vitamin C by my desk and a lovely lady who pampers me. Speaking of sick anyone tired of the health care reform waffling and the game of public option "hot potato?" I know I sure am. So to beat a dead horse, Pass.The.Damn.Bill.

It begins with; erasing Thomas Jefferson and instead embracing Jefferson Davis, forgetting FDR and worshiping Ronny, changing the influential members in the Civil Rights movement and changing capitalism to "free enterprise." Someone remind me why we don't let Texas secede?

Caulfield Preparatory is bad ass. The designer is Vincent Flumiani who is inspired by a character he created F.N. Sinclair. What you get is a modern take on prep classics. It is available at limited retailers and online right now, however expect to see more as GQ just gave it some buzz. I like where this is headed, it is almost like Cali skate meets Polo Prep. Not sure if that's what Flumiani is going for...but that is what I find cool about it.

I need a new gray suit and why not one with piping striped lapels. Not sure what this guy is doing here...perhaps he wants to prove a man in glasses is tough?

Color on color is spring. I don't think this guy knew what to do with his hands.

If my car breaks down on the side of a dessert road, I hope I am found in this outfit with a guitar around my neck.

Have a great weekend! That's all for me, now. Gonna rock tee, woven, hoodie, mancessories, dark denim and boots tonight. U?

I went to a high school of 4,000 people. Most of which (I'd say 98%), Bill O'Reilly would be astounded to find out, didn't dress in a way he would constitute as being from the "hood." Whatever that means. And isn't this a man who consistently rants about individual freedom?

Public schools in America might have a lot of issues at the moment, but it is highly unlikely the roots of those issues are what kids wear to school. It is an excuse made by those living in Pleasantville. Until policy makers and neo-cons realize that students aren't robots and are actual kids and adolescents who absorb information in various ways and that testing is not the absolute definition of genius. We won't be as competitive abroad as we once were.

This morning I visited the doctor, hence the late Dunkin post. I have been dealing with several different small things for the past two years or so and had to check in with the MD. It was rather basic stuff although it seems redundant going back each time I need referrals. Hello, health care reform. I will now be heading to physical therapy for probably at least three months to ease discomfort caused by bone spurs on my spine. The doctor suggested I calm down my workouts and focus on PT. I was trying to "juice my pecs" too much apparently. Not too down about this, sadly I have gotten used to it. I was feeling better this fall, joined a gym, started working out again and then my discomfort came back. I can't move my head too far to the right, my left arm goes numb or tingles and it ain't fun. I did make a joke in passing about health care reform to my doctor because I have to wait for my referrals. He laughed and said "it needs an entire change from top to bottom and doctors aren't helping either." If only our flaky Democratic Congress could understand that.

Not passing anything... well how do you explain that to the 30 million or so uninsured? It is simply unwise and immoral.

The Headline the New York Times Will Never Write

Financial Regulation Coming, GOP pretends to care, disingenuous throughout negotiations

It won't happen. It will never happen. This is nothing new, but come on! At least state the obvious, the GOP never wanted regulation in the first place. So going on "without the GOP" is the way it was always going to be. If health care reform taught us anything the Baucus process is worthless. Yet the New York Times can't even state that. Want to know why print media is disintegrating before our very eyes? Case in fucking point.

The GOP has been setting this up for the past couple of months. Delay the bill, block the bill, then lambaste its existence as a giveaway.

Sam Stein Huff Post:

In a 17-page memo titled, "The Language of Financial Reform," Luntz urged opponents of reform to frame the final product as filled with bank bailouts, lobbyist loopholes, and additional layers of complicated government bureaucracy.

"If there is one thing we can all agree on, it's that the bad decisions and harmful policies by Washington bureaucrats that in many ways led to the economic crash must never be repeated," Luntz wrote. "This is your critical advantage. Washington's incompetence is the common ground on which you can build support."

Luntz continued: "Ordinarily, calling for a new government program 'to protect consumers' would be extraordinary popular. But these are not ordinary times. The American people are not just saying 'no.' They are saying 'hell no' to more government agencies, more bureaucrats, and more legislation crafted by special interests."

In Republican circles Luntz's words, which have helped the party score win the message wars over health care and other legislative battles, are often treated as gospel. Already, some of the advice he's offered on regulatory reform has found its way into the political discourse -- with a proposed Consumer Financial Protection Agency seemingly on life support under Republican objections.

In addition to tying regulatory reform to a massive government takeover, Luntz's memo includes several other data points and messaging suggestions as a blue print for the legislation's defeat. Opponents, he writes, would be well served to link the package to the financial industry bailout (which, it should be noted, is fundamentally not part of the legislation). According to accompanying polling data, 52 percent of voters said they would be "much less likely" to vote for their member of Congress if they voted for a financial reform bill that contained a fund to bail out banks and Wall Street.

"Public outrage about the bailout of banks and Wall Street is a simmering time bomb set to go off on Election Day," Luntz wrote. "Frankly, the single best way to kill any legislation is to link it to the Big Bank Bailout."

Chalk this up to another day of negligible reporting by the NYT. This is how it works. The media will play soggy biscuit with the faux meme for the next couple of weeks that "the GOP was cut out of financial reform and it's the fault of the Black Jimmy Carter along with Chris Dodd who were not bipartisan enough."

Meanwhile the Tax Tea Partiers will stage rallies televised and promoted by Fox News and Freedom Works to decapitate the corporate swine/ Hitlers/ socialist/ gubbament takeover that is financial reform. President John McCain will use his economic expertise to fellashsh about bipartisanship, closed doors and freedom stocks. Then TIME will have an anonymous filled exclusive explaining that financial regulation is the first secret step to nationalizing banks, stocks, and urinal cakes. Chuck Todd will drool over the political football and how this is just another sign of Obama's inability to "fix the broken system." (he will then tweet about it for two days straight).

And while all this goes on, while all the fisting of information is regurgitated by talking heads, pundits and Congress; the gambling sociopaths of Wall St will be sipping martinis made with the melted cash of taxpayers. Laughing, vacationing and enjoying every single minute of the mess they created.

God Bless America.
