Quote For The Day

Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do - Ronald Reagan On a day that the Republican Party rejected the very idea that man is contributing to global warming. Calling these sociopaths "conservatives" is simply a lie. They have no qualm with selling our environment out to the slimy , oil companies. Nice party you guys got there, how does one NOT get invited? I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Well it's still snowing. So far this is ranks number 5 in the all time list of snow storms in Chicago. Luckily the fiance and I still have water, heat and electricity. Others haven't been so lucky and the city along with ComEd are working diligently to fix that. We live right by Lake Shore Drive where a lot of chaos ensued last night. By 7pm last night we had lost visibility of the traffic. Apparently some were stuck for nearly 9 hours on the Drive. YIKES! Best part is I'm home and not at work. Probably won't be doing much; laundry, workout and zone out. Thank you SNOWPAC, come again tonight please and thank you! P.S. Groundhog can suck it. Anti-Science Anti-Intellectual

Well if you don't have proof of your theory, just make it up! God will save us from Global Climate Change anyway...right? Mother Jones : To prove that climate scientists have been wrong about their predictions, Barton and Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-Ky.) enlisted Edward Wegman, a statistician at George Mason University, to write a report evaluating studies of man-made global warming. The Wegman Report, released in 2006, has been much-touted by climate skeptics in the years since. But it now looks like large parts of the report used information that was plagiarized, pulled from Wikipedia, or taken out of context—and it appears that Barton's office may have been feeding Wegman's team the information to include in the report. Wegman's report primarily attacked the "hockey stick chart," first published in a 1998 report co-authored by climate scientists Michael Mann (now of Pennsylvania State University), Raymond Bradley of the University of Massachusetts, and Malcolm K....

And God Said

We're all doomed. Andrew Leonard explains the sad theocracy of Rep. John Shimkus (IL) : Juan Cole does us the unpleasant service of bringing back to life the comments of John Shimkus, R-Ill., a year and a half ago. Shimkus starts by quoting Genesis 8, Verses 21 and 22, in which God makes Noah a promise. Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though all inclinations of his heart are evil from childhood and never again will I destroy all living creatures as I have done. As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease. Shimkus continues: "I believe that is the infallible word of god, and that's the way it is going to be for his creation... The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood." I'm glad that John Shimkus can sleep at night, faithful that that God's word is "infa...

George W. Bush or G-Dub as I liked to call him has been all over my tv set and I can't stand it. I didn't miss the guy. I don't miss the guy. I don't want to hear about him recollecting his "decisions." I don't want to hear about what he thinks about the teabaggers, Kanye, the economy or Wall St. And I especially don't want to hear talk about Saddam Hussein anymore. As Rude said , "the hole in our heart and soul is still there." This morning G-Dub was on the Today show with Matt Lauer and good old G-Dub made an unfounded claim that he created jobs . See the above graph and what G-Dub's job growth did for Americans everywhere. We can't let this man try to re-brand himself or re-write history. I certainly won't forget. And yes I'm looking backwards Barack because that's how we learn from our mistakes! Rage on ragers rage on! Here are your highlights: Meet Virginia: as the teabaggers want "Don't Tread on Me" l...

Blinding You With Science

It seems Climate Change scientists are beginning a new campaign and it's welcomed, " Don’t believe in global warming? That’s not very conservative ." The argument is sound. It comes across as focused and direct while going after the opposition for its blatant hypocrisy. The most appealing aspect is that they are challenging conservatives to conserve (clever). Perhaps this will do some good, especially considering who was recently elected . I am Frank Chow and I approved this message

Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Oh Thursday why can't you be more like Friday. I could then be basking in the warmth of a snuggie while sipping on a brew and watching football. ILL-INI! The lady and I are making a short trip to tailgate/see her niece and can't wait. In addition, there has been a NEW ADDITION to the Lady's family. Congrats to her cousin on their new born son. Hooray for babies! Everywhere babies! Luckily there is no pressure yet coming from any angle for the lady and I to settle down and start our own spawn. We can wait. So football, football and football. In other news I start physical therapy next week for an injury to my hip. Most Monday's and Friday's for about a month will have sucky blogging (no different from the norm). Apologies beforehand. The Threat of Not Being Green

Image
I don't nearly point this out enough. It's not easy being green. Just as poverty is an uphill battle the fight for effective climate change legislation is similarly daunting. The amount of corruption within the Big Oil companies and the support from sociopaths like suck navels named Newt Gingrich (and those in the GOP) makes communicating the real information to people difficult. This type of nonsense gets me fired up. Climate Progress : Whatever else you can say about Obama, he is no extremist, nor has he lacked for achievements. He has governed from a center-left position and has enacted a set of policies that have eluded progressives for decades. Yes, despite pushing through a variety of clean energy and CO2-reducing strategies that make him the greenest president to date , he has utterly failed on his crucial campaign commitment of passing comprehensive climate and clean energy legislation. In part this is for lack of serious trying by his White House, but mostly because ...

Friday ya'll! It is a muggy day out and I am in a muggy mood. I had to drop off Lil Sis Frank at the airport before dawn. Swore I was going to get jumped by some Vampires. Didn't happen, but I saw a homeless guy sleeping on a bench near my lady's place. Close enough. I didn't get much sleep, so doubling up on the coffee is going to be key. I don't have much else to add that's how out of it I am...except RAGE THE EFF ON WEINER!!! More of this please! This is what gets Frank juiced and jonesing to punch out juiceheads for acting a fool on the boardwalk. RAGE against, lying and conniving Republicans on the House floor. Get Your Dunkin Friday

It is Friday. Thank the Lord or Jeebus or Allah or whoever. This week has felt rather long. Not sure why as I was busy, but it felt strung out and long winded. This weekend the lady and I have plans to be uber domestic. We are heading to the Oak Park area , she is going to get her shopping fix in, we will say hello to my extended family and then share some sweet Sangria . The idea is to get away from the city and enjoy each others company since most of the summer we have been with friends and family. Not like that is a bad thing, but apparently the lady likes me and wants to just hang out with this guy. WINNER! We start the next INSANITY workout on Monday. MAX EVERYTHING!! Looking forward to it as this recovery week has left me wanting. What plans do ya'll got? Yes I said ya'll! Here are your highlights: Is there anything Mark Kirk says that isn't a fabrication? The Senate has priorities , WAR over domestic assistance Climate Bill is dead and the reality is the problems th...

With A Shrug

How America deals with Climate Change and Energy Policy: Light it on fire, and let its carbon pollution soar into the sky unrestricted: climate change legislation is dead. At a press conference this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), the Democrats' top climate and energy negotiator, acknowledged officially, and with obvious disappointment, that they lack the votes to pass legislation limiting carbon pollution, and that forthcoming energy legislation will be extremely narrow, in a bid to overcome a GOP filibuster. "Many of us want to do a thorough comprehensive [climate and energy] bill that creates jobs, breaks our addiction to foreign oil, and curbs pollution," Reid said. "Unfortunately at this time we don't have a single Republican to work with in achieving this goal. For me it's terribly disappointing and it's also very dangerous. So the President, Senator Kerry and I and others, large numbers of my caucus will c...

The First Rule of Global Warming Is

You don't talk about Global Warming. Ezra Klein : In response to this, Rachel said that no one wants to hear about climate change. The operative emotion here has to be inspiration, not fear. And she's right about that. The polling certainly backs her up. But that strikes me as depressing evidence of how unlikely we are to succeed. I simply don't believe you could've passed health care if you couldn't have talked about covering the uninsured, and I don't think stimulus would've worked without the spur of the unemployed. It's not that people wanted to hear about either subject all day, but they got both problems on a visceral enough level that the action being taken at least made a sort of sense. My fear is that if we ever get to the place where the action being taken makes a sort of sense as a way to address the problem, public opinion will collapse because it's built on such a flimsy foundation. Talking about clean energy isn't a lie, of course. ...

Well that was a long weekend. Really long. My lady was out in Orlando with Mickey and friends and although I stayed busy rocking shows, guitar licks and watching the Super Six tournament , it felt dragged out. I am exhausted and hoping my Dunkin will wake me the eff up. The Super Six this weekend was great. Froch and Kessler both brought a ton of heart and skill to the ring in the end, however I did felt like the right fighter won in Kessler . This week is shaping up to be juicing pecs city! Four weeks until we are heading back to DC for a friend's wedding. You know what the means... Gym, Tan, Laundry . Man the end of Jersey Shore was sad . Why did all the awesome have to end? And why in the world did Snooki and the Situation bump uggs? Duuuuuuuude! I know there are other things going on and a lot of whining and nonsense from the Democrats, but let's focus on one thing, what do I live vicariously through now? I mean the Shore was the shit. It was all the bad things I have never done in one season of trashy goodness. Seriously I am drinking a protein shake right now and working on the un-Situation! The post season "reunion" was pretty lame. Sammi Sweetheart is scandalous and shades mcgee. Ronnie and her broke up for like the 100th time in their short and total trainwreck of a relationship. I don't blame Ronnie for being pissed if I were him I would fist pump my way into a club and forgetta bout her! This weekend the lady and I are heading to Central Illinois because people get pregnant and you throw them parties for getting pregnant. I hope it includes mad juiceheads ...

Climategate The Latest in teh Stupid

Image
According to the right wing, the debate over global warming is over . The hippies have lost . Throw in the towel you losers! Why have they come to this conclusion; a host of leaked emails that apparently prove what the right wing has been saying all along . GLOBAL WARMING IS A HOAX! But those emails don't say that and they don't prove global warming is over. In fact it's not . The Copenhagen Diagnosis - Global ice-sheets are melting at an increased rate; Arctic sea-ice is disappearing much faster than recently projected, and future sea-level rise is now expected to be much higher than previously forecast, according to a new global scientific synthesis prepared by some of the world’s top climate scientists. In a special report called ‘The Copenhagen Diagnosis’, the 26 researchers, most of whom are authors of published IPCC reports, conclude that several important aspects of climate change are occurring at the high end or even beyond the expectations of only a few years ago....
