Get Your Dunkin Friday

It's been a rough and long week. I don't want to get into it, but at least there's some positives. That's what I have to focus on. These next couple of days I hope to be writing and finishing a script. Sometimes it's tough to sit down and get out natural dialogue I was on a roll and then the plot got in the way...DAMN YOU PLOT! Anyway I hope all of you have a splendid weekend.

Here are your highlights:

Goals, non-violent protest & now major backing. Occupy Wall Street being joined by major unions. If there only achievement is inspiration, I can support that alone.

FBI seeks to expand definition of rape

Our elite continually fail at their jobs

Earthscraper!!!

This is an informative and fun article for you wine lovers, The New Rules of Wine

On the Death of Anwar al-Awlaki - a U.S. citizen was assassinated by the government. It has the Left angry, confused and some relieved. We are at war and al-Awlaki was definitely a threat. It does, however, set a dangerous precedent that has me wondering, what now? What can't our government do? Booman, does a better job than I, so read and sound off!

It's been a rough past couple of days. I'm exhausted and beat. Today was supposed to start my long weekend off, but I got a call back for play. YES! The little things in life that make you happy. I'm excited as the material is better than I thought and the theater company seemed cool. So YES! Again. I gotta run, but hopefully will be back for more rage!

Here are your highlights:

Another alleged domestic terrorist that the FBI helped, then caught. I'm starting to think these guys would just be ranting on forums forever if they weren't contacted by undercover agents...

Occupy Wall Street, Michael Moore says it's the beginning of something...another perspective is that it's a waste of time if you don't have a purpose. More Wisconsin, Less "Loud Noises!" One thing is for sure, if it was a bunch of cranky old Republicans with funny hats, CNN would have non-stop coverage.

(hilarious video from the talented "Drunk Kitchen" gal, h/t Sophismata)

Wow, work work and more work. I'm strapped today. I'll be in Studio City serving up lunch off the truck and then I have an audition for a play in North Hollywood. I also decided to add one more part-time job to my rotation. So count me among the under employed, employed demographic. Combined it will hopefully be 32 hours...we'll see. I have the next three days off though, so that's great. I'm going to hunker down and finish writing a project and maybe start a new one as well.

Here are your highlights:

Budget issues and lawsuits loom in California

A lesson in self-awareness, Eric Cantor wants his FEMA money NOW!

Herman Cain goes after big issues

Not At All Embarrassed

Romney, the candidate, has no shame whatsoever.

Mother Jones:

It's tough for a Harvard-educated, one-time moderate Republican governor (who used to support gay rights, abortion rights, and gun control) to get to the right of a swaggering conservative Texan who looks as if he walked—make that, strode—straight out of a tea party video. But Mitt Romney has found a way—by targeting Gov. Rick Perry's compassionate conservatism. That is, Perry's support for allowing the children of undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition fees at Texas state colleges. In the days since the issue flared up at last week's Republican presidential debate, the Romney camp has continued to pound Perry on this point.

At that debate, Romney—who in Massachusetts had vetoed legislation that would have permitted the kids of illegal workers in Massachusetts to pay in-state tuition rates—blasted Perry's support for a measure allowing students who had lived in Texas for three years and graduated from a Texas high school to be eligible for those lower in-state rates. Perry responded crisply: "If you say that we should not educate children who have come into our state for no other reason than they've been brought there by no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart. We need to be educating these children, because they will become a drag on our society." He added that 177 of 181 Texas legislators supported this policy.

Perry had doubled-down. Worse, he had insulted all those Republican voters who disagreed with him. And the Romneybots went to town. While the debate was still in progress, the Romney campaign blasted out a press release accusing Perry of backing "tuition discounts for illegal immigrants." That was quite the negative spin. The issue could just as easily be framed as Perry—and practically every Texas lawmaker at the time—opposing penalizing Texas students whose parents were undocumented.

For once I actually agree with Rick Perry (HOLY HELL STOP THE PRESSES! I MEAN REALLY?!! YES! REALLY!). It is heartless to penalize students, especially in this matter. For a political party who peddles the "American Dream" so often, the GOP baseheads are certainly opposed to a lot of people having it.

Live by Rex Grossman, Die by Rex Grossman. Last night against the Cowgirls, some of our flaws showed, but what was glaring to me was that Grossman is still Grossman. Badly timed interceptions, panic in the pocket and a fumble to end the game. And then there's Kyle Shanahan who with a lead and a power back like Tim Hightower, he decides to pass the ball...even more...AND DON'T get me started on Romo. If you ignore the fact he didn't get the ball in the end zone and had a mediocre game, well then you could work for ESPN and stay on his jock. RAGE! Oh well 2-1 ain't too shabby for a team I still expect to go 8-8.

It was a crazy weekend. Busy and productive. I officially finished my first week at work and it was a major success. The truck rolled! Yesterday we were in Venice...oh Venice people. Always always always entertaining. It was fun rockin out all day, but I'm beat today. Not sure I got up this morning. Tonight is the Redskins v Dallas game, BEAT DALLAS!!! It's gonna be interesting which Dallas shows up and which Grossman shows up. He certainly can't start tonight's game like he did last week against the Cardinals. Dallas will make him pay. I'm excited to see our defense out there, hopefully with the main man LaRon Landry. Nobody on the team brings the kind of flare he does. Hail to the REDSKINS!! The Fall Fund Drive continues, things are tight in the house of Frank. IF you can please donate to help keep this blog rolling that'd be amazing. Thank you!

Well I'm beat. We did our first dinner shift at a bar in Hollywood last night. It rocked, it rolled and it was fun. A couple of my buddies showed up and that was doubly awesome. We stayed open late, so I got home around 2 in the morning. It's like being on a moving restaurant! This weekend we're excited as the truck was invited to the Abbot Kinney Festival in Venice. So this Sunday 10-6, come on by and say "Hello!" Also starting today and running for a month I'll have the "Donate" button below each post. It's the Fall fund drive. Mayweather v. Ortiz Reactions

(Getty Images)

It was an eventful evening in boxing. I was just landing into LAX after our trip to Chicago, so I missed the fight. I did, however follow the updates via Twitter and then later saw the fight in its entirety on YouTube. The best way to sum up the fight would be to "Protect yourself at all times!" Mayweather retaliated to a dirty tactic by Ortiz, legally, and Ortiz paid. It wasn't the ideal ending, but it surely was comical and almost poetic; Ortiz can only blame himself as many others said. The only fight I'm interested in for Mayweather is Pacquiao. I'm not going to analyze that fight till it's made, but damn, after last night I think more than ever it'll be fun to watch. And yes it has to be made, I don't believe it's about either fighter being scared, I think it's about money. It's always been about money and when Pacquiao takes care of business (unfinished at that) in November, the fight will happen or both men will have one looming question mark for their legacies. Enough of that, let the experts do the talking!

Here are some of the reactions:

Dan Rafael ESPN-

Protect yourself at all times. It is the oldest adage in boxing. Victor Ortiz did not do that, and he paid the ultimate price.

Floyd Mayweather Jr., who had dominated the first three rounds, looked brilliant in his first fight in 16 months, but that brilliance may be overshadowed by the way he scored a stunning knockout with one second left in the fourth round Saturday night to win a welterweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.

Some at ringside called it a sucker punch from Mayweather. Others blamed referee Joe Cortez, who did not have his eye on the action. Whatever you want to call it, Mayweather drilled Ortiz in a triumphant return to the ring.

Mark Kriegel FOX Sports-

Even by the standards of boxing, this was unmistakably crude. In that moment, as referee Joe Cortez moved to penalize Ortiz, the younger fighter seemed to have been found out, no, make that shamed. Perhaps this was to be expected. It seemed that Ortiz had been punked at the weigh-in, when he allowed Mayweather to put a hand on his throat. The headbutt wasn’t a way to even the score. It was an admission of weakness.

Ortiz knew it. Everybody knew it. So what did he do? He made matters worse — not by acknowledging his misconduct — but by stepping to Mayweather to embrace and … kiss him.

Kissed him?

Yes, kissed him. This was supposed to be a fight, not an emotional breakdown, not another cheap reality show.

Then Cortez — the referee who advertises himself as “fair but firm” — signaled for the action to commence. Ortiz hugged his opponent again.

“I spaced out,” said Ortiz.

Apparently, he was more interested in forgiveness than fighting.

Michael Rosenthal RING Magazine-

The words of wisdom reverberated across the MGM Grand Garden Arena after the crazy ending to the Floyd Mayweather Jr.- Victor Ortiz fight Saturday night.

“DEFEND YOURSELF AT ALL TIMES.”

Indeed. Victor Ortiz, new to mega-fights and in over his head, was brutally knocked out with one second remaining in the fourth round because he let his guard down in a moment of confusion and stupidity. For that he can only blame himself.

On top of that, he had purposely head butted Mayweather only moments earlier. It was an ugly moment, although one that probably can be attributed to a frustrated kid losing his head.

Again, though, he must take responsibility for his actions.

Chris Mannix Sports Illustrated-

Mayweather won't get much credit for the win. The general public is going to look at Mayweather's knockout punches as cheap shots. Simple as that. That replay will be shown over and over (and over and over), and in slow motion, it looks pretty bad. Mayweather proved, once again, that he is the most skilled fighter in the world. But this win won't go down as one of his finest moments.

Steve Kim Max Boxing from Twitter-

I mean, seriously, if any other fighter, did what they did to Ortiz, people would applaud that fighter- because he deserved it

Again, I don't really like what Floyd did or how it ended, but let's be real here. Victor, in many ways, did this to himself

Mayweather-Ortiz will be like that really bad, classic B-movie that will have a cult following. 'Attack of the Killer Head But

Trans-Atlantic Throwdown- Interview with Colombian Necktie

I had the chance to interview two members of the LA band Colombian Necktie. Take a listen and get to know this band as they are truly in West Coast terms EPIC.

Bio:

LA's Colombian Necktie have been together for just over a year and have quickly made their mark on the flourishing West Coast hardcore/punk/metal scene. The music is honest to its core, like the band's D.I.Y. ethics and beliefs. They are successfully bridging gaps between subgenres and constantly experimenting with sound and feel, which can be heard on their negatively charged self-titled EP. And the intensity doesn't stop there; Colombian Necktie's live show is chaotic, unafraid and destuctive. Fueled by creativity, aggression and passion, Colombian Necktie is a force of nature that isn't slowing down anytime soon.

Heading to Illinois

Obama was in full campaign mode tonight. Here are some of the reactions. If you saw Obama's speech tonight and compare that to last night's GOP debate, it's not even close. When he's on, he's hard to beat, even with this economy. He also urged Congress to "pass this now" repeatedly, a direct challenge to the do-nothing GOP Congress. It doesn't have a Hail Mary's chance of passing, but it's going to be hard for Republicans to explain why they did nothing when people are still suffering in 2012. Also too, I like the name "American Jobs Act." Freedom fries and all that (as for the plan, I'll let the wonks look at it, but I would've preferred more shovel-ready talk and less tax cuts talk). You asked for a fight, Obama was definitely in a fighting mood.

The lady and I are headed to Central Illinois for a wedding, then Chicago for the rest of next week. Limiting blogging will ensue. Have an opinion about the speech? Plans to get jobs going? Sound off here, if you like.

We fly to Central Illinois late tonight. RED EYE! Woohoo! I'm looking forward to a little stint in farm country and then Chicago for a couple of days. Home sweet kind of home. Tonight is the Obama Jobs Speech. My advice to the White House, if they ever listen to us lowly bloggers and I've said this before, GO BIG. If you think a compromise can be reached around $300 billion go for $700 billion and add in goodies. I mean shovel ready, fix schools, roads and bridges. I can name a few around here off the top of my head *cough Santa Monica Blvd, Lincoln *cough cough. There's no reason to propose something knowing the Republicans will reject it anyway, unless you propose the biggest plan meant to turn around the economy in the near future. Let's face it, we need it. Obama needs it to win. Oh, and he won't get help from our media. No matter what happens, they'll find a minute sliver from his speech or what someone else says and make it front page news. Never mind, the glaring unemployment number of 9% and the president being the only adult attempting to turn that around.

Here are your highlights:

Treasonous, Anti-American, Unpatriotic Congressmen to Skip President Obama's Job Speech

Alternate headline: Republican Congressmen Reject Black Man Who Wants to Talk About Jobs

Yahoo:

When President Obama delivers his address on a new job-creation plan to a joint session of Congress on Thursday, he won't be speaking to a sold-out crowd. Several lawmakers are still determining whether it is worth their time to stay in Washington to hear the president, and some are already planning to skip it.

Republican Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia is the latest to announce that he will not be attending, and will instead watch the speech from his office across the street. During the speech, Broun will post his comments about Obama's remarks on Twitter, a tradition he keeps during State of the Union addresses.

"Dr. Broun will not be attending President Obama's joint address, but he looks forward to hearing the president's proposal for job creation," Broun spokeswoman Meredith Griffanti told The Ticket. "Dr. Broun will instead watch the speech from his office where he will host a live town hall via Twitter to interact with his constituents."

Broun remained in his office during Obama's State of the Union address in January, providing his own commentary on the social networking website throughout the speech.

"Mr. President, you don't believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism," one of Broun's tweets read.

Anybody still wondering if these guys want to create jobs in America? Anybody still think they can be reasoned with? I hope the White House points this out on Thursday, I won't hold my breath, but this kind of abhorrent behavior should be called out. There are people who want nothing, but Obama to fail even if it means wrecking the country.

But but but BOTH SIDES!! "Sons of bitches" is a perfect term if you ask me.

2012, It More Than Matters

BooMan:

I think the Republicans have pushed the ball far enough down the field that they will be in position to radically change this country if they win the White House next year. They'll almost certainly be able to attain a majority on the Supreme Court to overturn Roe, which will then allow all these extreme abortion laws in the states to go into effect. They'll probably be allowed to get away with severely limiting voting rights without any challenge from the Department of Justice. Public-sector unions will be gone. The EPA will be rendered toothless. Entitlements will be gutted. Everything that isn't tied down will be privatized and corrupted.

There won't be anything compassionate about the triumph of conservatism. And it will be really hard to fix.

I don't think this is hyperbole. Do you?

No, I don't.

Case in point: Every Republican presidential candidate has to "kiss the ring" of a guy like Jim DeMint if they want to get the nomination. That in itself should scare the living day lights out of a reasonable person.

We really must pull ourselves together and do everything we can to stop a GOP presidency and GOP majorities. The nation will not look remotely the same if we don't and "no amount of clapping will bring us back from where they will send us."

For you Santa Monica peeps, here's a group already getting organized. Santa Monica 4 Obama. Not in Santa Monica, no worries, the site has a search engine to find local groups near you as well.

Little Hell

Woke up and the first post I read was agreeing with Sarah Palin's "crony capitalism" and the second was a Hillary should run in 2012 post. I swear there must be something about the end of summer that makes the true Left go absolutely nuts. It's like a piece of "little hell." You can never be taken seriously if you are willing to hand the country over on a platter to sociopaths or delusional about a primary challenge. Here's a clue to the true Left, you're not the base. And no I won't link to the pieces, I only mention it, so that people will stop before we repeat 2010 and live in big hell.

It's a tough road ahead. We stand a much better chance if people acknowledge there's a bit more at stake than who is the most progressively pure...

Get Your Dunkin Friday

I'm exhausted from filming yesterday. Due to some traffic issues one of the actors was a couple of hours late. We didn't wrap till 1:30am. So it was a long day, apologies for sleeping in...okay not really. It's always interesting after I'm done filming because I want to get right back in there and do it again. I always think of something new or want to just one more take to make it perfect. Alas, that's not how it works. It was a fun time, I spit, I fake vomited, I stuck my hand in a vile...I'll spare the details...I'm glad I had the opportunity. I should have final footage by December and hopefully sooner. Thanks for the support everyone, this is just the beginning!

Here is your highlight:

Unemployment Report, it's not time for bipartisan committees or bipartisan "plans." It's time for a big, aggressive plan from our president that can turn our economy around. Austerity has failed, as we knew it would. We know the GOP has no intention of helping turn our country around. They've decided beating this president is more important than our country's health. It's the time the White House says that and looks them straight in the eye and says "Enough, already." Jobs, jobs, and jobs. Forget the racist assholes, forget the beltway media, forget the corporations, this is about the people. We're out here and we're beyond frustrated.

Get Your Dunkin Thursday

Well filming is today. The call times got pushed back to this afternoon which is fine, I'm just antsy to get started. It's gonna be a late night. I'm thinking 10 hrs at least. We'll see. This is the part though that I love. Yes it's a short film, but I get to work on my craft at these times. Cool stuff. I won't get too actory on yeah. In other news, Happy September (it's already here) in a week we'll be back in Chicago for a wedding. I'm looking forward to hitting up the ole city, seeing buddies, and family. Then back to LA and the food truck, hopefully some more auditions and fall football. YES!

Here are your highlights:

Obama's Job Speech moved to Sept. 8th, progressives have the vapors, the White House sees an opportunity, Boehner still a prick

As always, Stay Classy Fox News

White House releases cooooool new site page, We the People

NFCEast Predictions, my Redskins 7-9, that's plausible

Must Read: The consequences of scorched-earth policy making, Steve Benen explains the almost criminal like behavior of the Republican party. The extremism that almost caused another financial meltdown and how now they don't care who or what gets destroyed anymore...
