Future Not Done Won

Providence takes winning the future and takes a big ole stinky dump on it:

The Providence school board voted to dismiss every one of the city's 1,926 public school teachers, the Providence Journal reports.

They won't all ultimately lose their jobs, but the move gives the board "maximum flexibility" to make budget cuts.

"Teachers begged the School Board to issue layoffs rather than fire them outright because, under the layoff provisions, teachers are recalled based on seniority. There is no guarantee that seniority would be used to bring back any of the fired teachers. School leaders have been vague about exactly how seniority will play out in the case of terminations."

Wisconsin Karma

Maybe you shouldn't be warring on unions after all jackass:

The threatened wave of layoffs of public employees -- which Republican Gov. Scott Walker has said will occur if his budget bill does not pass with its anti-public employee union provisions -- is now hitting home with a top Republican leader. As the Associated Press reports, the wife of state Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has now received a preliminary layoff notice.

Lisa Fitzgerald works as a counselor in the Hustisford school district, where the school board has sent layoff notices to all 34 members of the teaching staff.

I know this guy will blame the Democrats for the layoffs, when actuality it's his own party's policies that are at fault...then again he is a Republican, so perhaps this is his way of making sure his wife stays at home all servant like. Women do need to be put in their place after all.

Would love to visit this happy go lucky home. Who wants to bet we find this guy trolling for SWF's on Craigslist soon?

Even Goldman Sachs

Thinks the GOP economic policies would be harmful to our economy:

A confidential Goldman Sachs report, which was obtained by ABC News, argues that the spending cuts passed last week by the House of Representatives would be a drag on the economy, cutting economic growth by about two percent of GDP.

The Financial Times quotes Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY): "This nonpartisan study proves that the House Republicans' proposal is a recipe for a double-dip recession. Just as the economy is beginning to pick up a little steam, the Republican budget would snuff out any chance of recovery. This analysis puts a dagger through the heart of their 'cut-and-grow' fantasy."

What Goldman nor Comrade Schumer understand is that the Tax Cut Fairy simply starts growth with the wave of her wand. It's just that wand has been broken the last ten years or so, but when she's got it back and working...BOP! Economic awesomeness with glitter, golden toilets and and and more money for rich people! Stupid morons and their numbers. GDP is irrelevant when the Tax Cut Fairy is involved.

Somewhere in this report are numbers which Fox News can fix...

The fiance dinged up her ring and I've been on the search for replacement diamonds for weeks now. I was kind of baffled when I first got there as it was merely a bunch of different vendors with cases of diamonds and ring settings. It didn't seem to have a rhyme or reason to it. Get Serious

John Cole says it and I'm in complete agreement:

I’ve said this before, and I will say it again. Unless your proposal includes a substantial increase in taxes and a substantial amount of cuts to the military budget as well as ending the farm subsidies and giveaways to big oil and big energy and big business, you can kindly just shut up about the deficit and the debt. Additionally, any cuts to entitlements need to include cuts to the CURRENT recipients, not grandfathering the boomers and then wondering why the cuts never materialize in the future.

If you aren’t going to do those things, just shut up. You aren’t serious.

Illinois Tourism Gets a Bone

Should have a big fat billboard that says "Illinois We Don't Piss on Workers, We Love Wisconsin Unions."

It's one thing to have Reagan-esque disdain for unions and organized labors (still unacceptable), but this Governor in Wisconsin is Xtreme:

Under Walker's plan, as TPM has previously reported, most state workers would no longer be able to negotiate for better pensions or health benefits or anything other than higher salaries, which couldn't rise at a quicker pace than the Consumer Price Index. According to the Associated Press: "The proposal would effectively remove unions' right to negotiate in any meaningful way. Local law enforcement and fire employees, as well as state troopers and inspectors would be exempt."

In addition, this asshat is threatening to call in the National Guard if you protest him and "disrupt services." You know what disrupts services? Not paying people, not accounting for rising health care costs, treating companies better than your citizens, and shitting on the people who teach your students and make your city run!

(Frank slams his desk on the ground and pummels it with his bare hands!)

Want to know why people join unions? Because of guys like Governor La La Land who think 40 hour work weeks appeared out of the Free Market Fairy's bunghole!

(Franks lets out a raging scream and body slams an ongoing truck! RAAAAGE!)

Wonder what the Wisconsin Governor would think about citizens voting on his health care? How about how he travels the state? Or where and when he takes a piss? Maybe they should vote on his raise, heck save the state some money and cuts his worthless salary?! And what's with all these Republican so-called freedom lovers hating on the freedom to negotiate rights and better benefits? How UN-FUCKING PATRIOTIC!! *Everything is smashed

(Frank calms down and picks up some of the shrapnel)

At least Illinois can reach out to the tax paying citizens and get them into a cooler, hipper, and less dickish state. We have these funds for rails that your governor was kind enough to pass along : )

All are welcome...okay not you Kenosha.

Everything With Republicans

These days is just one big "PENIS!" game.

TPM:

Here's a fun exchange on CNN this morning that neatly encapsulates that culture. It starts with Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) -- the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee -- attacking President Obama's budget proposal for not reducing the deficit by more than $1 trillion over 10 years. From there, Sessions dodges the expected questions about why his party doesn't take the first swing of the ax at Social Security. And after clumsily passing the buck back to Obama, Sessions admits that $1 trillion is a pretty good start ... when Republicans propose it!

"A one trillion reduction is insignificant," Sessions insists. "This is nowhere near what's necessary to avoid the fiscal nightmare that this nation is facing. ... It doesn't touch any of the entitlements, it only has some reductions in the discretionary accounts."

Read teh rest. If it's not clear to you by now that Republicans are NOT serious about the budget and the deficit, you have not been paying attention. No matter what the subject may be whether it's "entitlements", defense cuts or health care their response is simply to SCREAM LOUDER!

We should giggle every time one of these clowns opens their mouths.

GOP Will Tax You, If It Stops Abortions

The GOP is fitting to stop abortions by taxing!

TPM:

The House GOP continues to place its heaviest emphasis on fighting abortion rights, and they've taken a lot of heat for it. Progressives, Democrats, pro-choice groups, and others have spared little criticism, but they've focused most heavily on three distinct lines: the fact that Republicans are ignoring job-creation as a priority; the fact that one of their pieces of legislation would allow hospitals to refuse to perform an abortion on a dying woman; and the fact that, until recently at least, the GOP wanted to limit tax-payer support for abortion to exclude incidences of non-forcible rape.

Here's another one: The GOP's plan to ban tax-payer money from funding abortions includes giant tax hikes for businesses.

More specifically, it would eliminate tax incentives on employer-provided health care benefits if those benefits cover abortion as a medical procedure.

No, hell hasn’t frozen over you read that right. The GOP is going to tax businesses to make sure women die and have motherless children born across the states! Family values indeed. They also want to make sure it’s even harder to have a "decent" insurance plan. I mean who needs those anyway? It’s not like women get pregnant and need care. We all know Jeebus went into their uterus and got all holy up in there. Care Bear Schmare!

And the best part is this move will create a million jobs. Using their Ryan Plan Math the GOP will create new jobs by offering abortion jelly beans. Yummy! Plant an abortion jelly bean and jobs will sprout out of the ground like Reagan’s soul.

Known hippie and tv personality (he played a gay guy once. we know he was gay because he wore turtlenecks) Al Franken:

"Before the health care reform, when your company bought health insurance for you and it was not considered income, and therefore you weren't taxed on it, and it did cover all reproductive services, you could make the exact same argument. So this is no change, right?" Franken asked rhetorically, before joking, "You don't have to agree with me, you're a journalist, but I think my logic is impeccable."

Times They Have Come

Brad DeLong on the decline of NYTimes and journalism:

Peter Baker's article reads like Hollywood celebrity journalism: 95 percent gossip, and perhaps 5 percent policy. This, to me, is a big problem. Celebrity gossip is the wrong rhetorical mode for a story in the nation's leading newspaper about White House economic policymaking. If The New York Times does not share that belief, if it views decision making on matters of state in the same light as decision making on matters concerning the Academy Awards, that may partially explain the fix the paper is in. It may also determine whether The Times ever emerges from its troubles with its influence and dignity intact.

The whole retelling of the story is fantastic, my favorite is the list below:

Instead, what the Times Magazine piece tells you about Orszag and Obama is that:

1. Obama is unhappy with the menu of policy options his advisors have been giving him.

2. Obama is so focused on the economy that he cancels lunch breaks to continue conversations.

3. Obama is pragmatic.

4. The process of making economic policy inside the Obama administration was no fun and was "dysfunctional."

5. Talking to Obama's economic policy staff is like "picking through the wreckage of a messy divorce."

6. Paul Volcker felt ignored by Peter Orszag and others.

7. Peter Orszag "was considered... arrogant. When Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood mentioned to a reporter that he had settled a dispute with Orszag by going around him to Emanuel, a peeved Orszag would not take his apology calls; LaHood ultimately sent a case of wine to make amends. Orszag also exchanged testy emails with Emanuel over the health care effort."

8. Other officials "tired of Orszag's refrain" about cutting the long-term deficit.

9. Orszag believes, "Unfortunately, I think the environment often brought out the worst in people instead of the best in people. And I’d include myself in that."

10. Of Larry Summers's replacement, Gene Sperling: "The selection of Sperling, who held the same job under Clinton, was telling. A onetime boy wonder who, despite his graying hair, still has the same whirling-dervish, work-till-midnight energy, Sperling... eventually won over Obama with his doggedness. As a champion of the payroll tax holiday, he proved critical to shaping Obama’s tax deal with Republicans and so many other issues that White House officials refer to him as B.O.G., the Bureau of Gene. Where Summers was a master macroeconomic thinker, Sperling is known for his mastery of getting things done, or at least waging the fight, in the place where policy, politics and media meet."

It's a thorough example of why so many are frustrated with our current established media (and not because it's oh so librul!). They fail us daily, especially on an economic front. My personal take is that economics is hard, so they prefer just talking about Peter Orszag in a Kate Gosselin kind of way.

(best commercial of the night)

Well a formal congrats to the Green Bay Packers who staved off what looked to be an inevitable Steelers comeback. And thank god. The last thing I wanted to hear was the media talking about redemption for a misogynistic, jock, douchebag like Ben Roethliscrapper. Those headlines thankfully can be recycled now. It was a heckuva a game considering I really don't care for either team. The commercials were just ok, but the Groupon Ad is causing a bit of a stir. Their response seems to be a "hey not everyone gets our joke, sorry." I missed the beginning part, but it seems people are overreacting. More people should be concerned with Xtina's butchering of the National Anthem, the horrific half time yell fest by Black Eyed Peas and the hilarious fail of Jerry Jones. Some Super Bleh.

Watching the Super Bowl

Two of the most annoying fan bases. Who do you pick, the guys who put cheese on their heads? Or the guys who think they invented the towel?

I'm going with the cheese heads. Mainly because no one is less deserving than Roethliscrapper.

Jamie Kilstein on Conan

I wanted to post this earlier in the week, but couldn't get to it. This is a great step for stand-up comedy and a monumental step for Jamie. What Jamie does isn't easy and he has the stones to say what many comedians just won't dare. Much props to Jamie Kilstein. You can also listen to his podcast with Allison Kilkenny, Citizen Radio.

Special thanks to Conan for putting up comedians like Jamie.

Bad Day

I would love love love to share how bad of a day I am having, but I better not. Just know there's one thing above all else that I fucking hate, "different rules for different people." It has come up over and over again in my life. It's frustrating to say the least.

Gong Hei Fat Choi! Happy Chinese New Year! Well if you didn't hear (cuz you live in a cave) Chicago was snowed in. We almost broke the record book, but looks like we'll come in at third place with 20 inches of snow! Blizzard bitches. So needless to say we did not celebrate the Chinese New Year downtown like our friends in LA. Maybe this weekend...anywho I was stuck waiting for a train today. It was nearly 45 minutes, I still don't have full warmth in my legs. Tonight it's another "don't go outside" night OH JOY! At least I got a day off (great photos here).

SNOW MY GOD! Well it's still snowing. So far this is ranks number 5 in the all time list of snow storms in Chicago. Luckily the fiance and I still have water, heat and electricity. Others haven't been so lucky and the city along with ComEd are working diligently to fix that. We live right by Lake Shore Drive where a lot of chaos ensued last night. By 7pm last night we had lost visibility of the traffic. Apparently some were stuck for nearly 9 hours on the Drive. YIKES! Best part is I'm home and not at work. Probably won't be doing much; laundry, workout and zone out. Thank you SNOWPAC, come again tonight please and thank you! P.S. Groundhog can suck it.

Mixed in America

Growing up biracial (I identify myself as Asian-American for similar reasons as the student who identifies himself as African-American) I would have benefited from an organization such as the one featured in this video. It's encouraging to hear college students brought together by their differences rather than separated by them. I don't know if my outlook is as rosey as these students, but that is due to my own personal experience. My hope is that I am wrong and that they are right.

SNOW!!!! It's coming damnit, run!!!! Holy hell it's Hoth out here (that never gets old). Well we're all here in Chicago anticipating what may be the biggest snow in some 40 years. Or it might just be winter snow. Regardless that damn Groundhog doesn't have to tell us shit. We know what's coming. SNOW!!!!! I'm hoping just to get some days off work and be hunkered down with the fiance. Crossing my fingers and toes and I don't have any shame about it.
