Friday ya'll! It is a muggy day out and I am in a muggy mood. I had to drop off Lil Sis Frank at the airport before dawn. Swore I was going to get jumped by some Vampires. Didn't happen, but I saw a homeless guy sleeping on a bench near my lady's place. Close enough. I didn't get much sleep, so doubling up on the coffee is going to be key. This weekend "Baby Bull" Juan Diaz goes to battle with Juan Manuel Marquez in highly anticipated rematch. I have followed Baby Bull's career since he was just a "chubby prospect" going to get his degree while going on a title run. Even then the kid seemed to have his head on right. I think it is too early to write him off, however his lead by example approach should be trumpeted by any writer, commentator or fan of boxing. A friendly reminder. I think I have posted this before, but part of my rage regarding the Arizona Immigration law is how deeply rooted it is in our history. Uhmerika hasn't changed a bit.

Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882:

The Chinese Exclusion Act was a significant restriction on free immigration in U.S. history. The Act excluded Chinese "skilled and unskilled laborers and Chinese employed in mining" from entering the country for ten years under penalty of imprisonment and deportation.[7][8] The few Chinese non-laborers who wished to immigrate had to obtain certification from the Chinese government that they were qualified to immigrate, which tended to be difficult to prove.[8] Volpp argues that the "Chinese Exclusion Act" is a misnomer, in that it is assumed to be the starting point of Chinese exclusionary laws in the United States. She suggests attending to the intersections of race, gender, and U.S. citizenship in order to both understand the restraints of such a historical tendency and make visible Chinese female immigration experiences, including the Page Act of 1875.[9]

The Act also affected Asians who had already settled in the United States. Any Chinese who left the United States had to obtain certifications for reentry, and the Act made Chinese immigrants permanent aliens by excluding them from U.S. citizenship.[7][8] After the Act's passage, Chinese men in the U.S. had little chance of ever reuniting with their wives, or of starting families in their new home.[7]

And it got worse before it got better...

I hope the administration will continue to use the legal system to thwart such asinine and nativist laws, but this isn't going away and it lends itself to a rather ugly road ahead. However, the question "Where does this coming from?" should be rather simple, in times of change or uncertainty part of Uhmerika always returns to its most base instincts. And in 2010 we have a network (with various facilitators) all too willing to perpetuate ignorance.

So at the last minute the lady and I decided we are going to trek down to Central Illinois to go boating. On her third week of her new job it seems the stress of the new environment is getting to her and the best way to combat that is of course, a weekend at the dock. We will be hanging out with the family while hopefully getting some sun (why am I not Hawaiin now I don't know!) We have almost done with our first full week of the second month of Insanity and I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore. It is like month one all over again. I get it now. The whole program makes sense. The first month gets you mentally prepared and helps you lose some lbs. The second month humbles the crap out of you and sculpts your body. In my case...not really sculpt, but perhaps a little definition...needless to say I am still gung-ho and still getting whooped.

Krebs gave a short speech while explaining the inspiration for his book "538 Ways to Live, Work and Play like a Liberal." It was nice to hear how the organization began and what it inspires across cities large and small in our country. The overall feeling was that the DL is only getting stronger. It was nice to see the old gang as well. I hadn't been to DL since I began Insanity, so we caught up on things and mostly just joshed around. Little fire breathing even more less rage. I have no desire to do anything today. It is Monday and Monday's have become such a dreadful experience at work lately, that I have considered taking vacation days each Monday of every month. This, of course, would backfire as I do not have enough vacation days and it would just lend itself to more chaos on Tuesdays. Aye there is the rub. This weekend was a success! The lady and me dredged through copious amounts of suburbanites and survived. We also purchased some much needed items (cologne and such) and a gift for Lil Sis Frank. We enjoyed the Frozen Sangria mixed with Frozen Margarita at the Avenue Ale House in Oak Park while treating ourselves to some decadent fried veggies, a shrimp salad and a BISON BURGER. Our stomachs have certainly shrunk, so we had plenty of leftovers. Today we start INSANITY MAX. It looks to be just as difficult as it sounds.

Weekend Fun

These were taken on a Sunday where it was overcast, however when we went into the wind there was a comforting breeze through the cabin. It is a different type of relaxation, like none other, on the boat. The lake seen in these pictures is called Shelbyville.






The lady and me are heading out for the rest of the day. The weather is odd right now. Humid, but it rained all night, so for lack of a better word it is "sticky." We are trekking to an outdoor mall today, gonna be a whole lotta sexy going on.

It is Friday. Thank the Lord or Jeebus or Allah or whoever. This week has felt rather long. Not sure why as I was busy, but it felt strung out and long winded. This weekend the lady and I have plans to be uber domestic. We are heading to the Oak Park area, she is going to get her shopping fix in, we will say hello to my extended family and then share some sweet Sangria. The idea is to get away from the city and enjoy each others company since most of the summer we have been with friends and family. At a press conference this afternoon, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, and Sen. John Kerry (D-MA), the Democrats' top climate and energy negotiator, acknowledged officially, and with obvious disappointment, that they lack the votes to pass legislation limiting carbon pollution, and that forthcoming energy legislation will be extremely narrow, in a bid to overcome a GOP filibuster.

"Many of us want to do a thorough comprehensive [climate and energy] bill that creates jobs, breaks our addiction to foreign oil, and curbs pollution," Reid said. "Unfortunately at this time we don't have a single Republican to work with in achieving this goal. For me it's terribly disappointing and it's also very dangerous. So the President, Senator Kerry and I and others, large numbers of my caucus will continue to reach out to Republicans and work with environmental and energy committees, communities, to garner the support we need to move forward on a much larger more comprehensive bill."

If the BP Oil Spill can't even get a half-assed bill through...we are fading fast...cue the outro music.

I said my piece last night about the Shirley Sherrod story. The culprit in this is Andrew Breitbart, a sociopath who wants nothing but to divide this nation. The administration, however and the White House's handling of the situation has been disappointing. I was watching the Today Show this morning and instead of focusing on the dark deception of false equivalencies drummed up by the right wing noise machine they focused on the administration's mistake. Exactly what I feared. Hopefully this will pass as we have much more pressing issues, but damn if this wasn't avoidable. I want to say more about my own experiences. I want to tell you how I empathize with Sherrod. I want to give you examples, but that would play into identity politics that I know happens too often. The real shame of this is it is clear we can't talk about race like grown ups. Not in Uhmerika. I have a busy and hectic day up ahead. Rock on!

This week is the "recovery" week of Insanity. I am still getting my butt kicked and am starting to worry that I am going to flat line. I have looked up ways to combat this, the consensus is to get plenty of sleep and to up my caloric intake which I feel like I have been on top of throughout. Perhaps it is because I am still fighting off a cold from last week? I wake up every morning groggy. My nose is stopped up. My right ear feels as if someone is living in it. It is a whole lot of awesome and by awesome I mean it sucks. Who gets a cold during the summer? This guy. On an unrelated note I was called out of the blue by a director I worked with last fall. She was kind enough to arrange an audition for me...for an indie film. I won't say more for fear of jinxing it. Wish me luck!

The bottom line is that you can't promote extremism and hope to control it when it comes to power. That's why it's wrong for Mississippi politicians to go to CCC rallies and that's why it's wrong to play footsie with the Tea Party. The mainstream Republican Party has been atrociously bad for a long time, but the party that shut down the government and impeached Clinton morphed into the party that knew no fiscal discipline and couldn't call torture by its true name. As bad as those versions of the party were, they were child's play compared to what's emerging out of the Republican base today. The party is getting Palinized and if we're not good at combating them, the whole country is going to get Palinized. At least Trent Lott agrees with me that that won't be good for anyone.

I doubt at this point there is any turning back. The Tea Party as far as I can tell IS the Republican Party. Obama is the anti-Christ and the NAACP is a racist organization. It is only a matter of time before the few "rational" people remaining within the conservative ranks abandon ship or follow suit. Then we can all party like it's the 1950's and go back to the good old days when drinking from separate water fountains was all the rage.

I had to download or re-install many of the most basic functions, but it is all cleaned up and ready to go! The weekend was relaxing and it was sad to leave the boat. Teachers Make Money

I have never understood why teachers don't get paid more, but apparently some get paid a decent wage in the Chicago area. The Tribune wants everyone to be outraged about that, but then when you look at the statistics of course it isn't outrageous:

—About 4 percent of teachers statewide earned $100,000 or more — 5,457 teachers — but the vast majority worked in the Chicago suburbs, with heavy concentrations in north Cook, DuPage and Lake counties. In all, 32 Chicago-area districts paid at least 20 percent of their teachers six figures — five times the state average.

—Six-figure teachers were unevenly distributed, with high school teachers making up 60 percent of the group — more than double their representation in the teaching force. Affluent suburban districts had the largest concentrations of six-figure teachers. Less than 1 percent of Chicago Public School teachers earned $100,000 or more in 2009.

A select few are paid relative to the community they are educating. How illogical indeed.

Wooha! I got it all in check! Well I am on week four of Insanity and let me tell you, despite some lapses in my diet (had a friend in town, of course I drank) I feel great. I have gone down a size in my pants already, my face seems to be trimmer and overall I think I made a great decision. Now there are the drawbacks; constant soreness, eating sand and going to bed super early, however it is worth it. In other news we are heading to Central Illinois this weekend and this time I am taking Lil Sis Frank as well. Should be a happening time as she will get to experience the BOAT!

1.) The US economy grew at a solid rate in the 1960s. Why? A big reason was the US government building the highway system. Now goods and services could move between cities in a far easier manner. If you think that wasn't a big deal then you obviously don't get out much.

2.) Since 1970, government spending has accounted for about 20% of all US GDP growth.

The "austerity movement" is complete and utter bullshit. Any questions?

Well what did I miss? World Cup? Boxing? Nope saw those and although the final was underwhelming Fight Night was fantastic! Juan Manuel Lopez puts on a heckuva show, even if it was only two rounds. In other news I started week four of INSANITY today. I woke up early and tried to do the morning workout thing. Not sure how people do it. I spent most of the workout trying to come to. The whole time I felt I was half awake, but I was sweating and huffing and puffing, so I assume I got my work in. I get to go in late to work today. Probably will do the following: nothing. LOL. I said my pieces on teh Lebron last night on Twitter. I am over it now and still think he took the easy way out. Oh well. We move on. This weekend should be nice and chill. The lady had a whole week off and did all sorts of projects about the apartment. I walked in last night to a brand new paint color in the living area. Quite lovely. Insanity week three is almost done! I am not as fit as I would like, but the results are...dare I say...awesome. Last night the lady and I rewarded ourselves with some Chili Mac's margaritas while dishing with our close friends. All in all a splendid occasion, but man are we lightweights. Finally above is a video of Chicago's own Mike Palascak who debuted on Jay Leno last night. Mike was one of the first friendly comedians I met in Chicago and has shot up quick through the circuit. A federal judge ruled today that part of the Defense of Marriage Act, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman, is unconstitutional.

Judge Joseph Tauro, of U.S. District Court in Boston, issued rulings on two separate cases today.

"This court has determined that it is clearly within the authority of the Commonwealth to recognize same-sex marriages among its residents, and to afford those individuals in same-sex marriages any benefits, rights, and privileges to which they are entitled by virtue of their marital status," Tauro wrote in the decision for Massachusetts v. Health and Human Services.

This is undoubtedly part of the Obama-Gay Alliance that is set to destroy the very value of marriage and marriagisms. In all seriousness, this seems to be a win for equality.

Look I get that Lebron James has earned his keep as one of the best players in the NBA and maybe of all time, HOWEVER an hour long special to announce he is going to Miami? MIAMI?! Really? WTF? I am of the thought that the mid-term election strategy was quite simple for Democrats. Get together, pass some shit and point out the opposition doesn't have a single alternative; you know make the public believe YOU KNOW what you are doing. It included everything I needed; boating, sun and friends. I can't complain, although my diet did fall off the wagon a bit ( I am too weak for delicious cake and Fritos!) I am on week three of Insanity, the results thus far have been great and I am hoping to show everyone my progress by the end. Nothing Says Fourth of July Like

The Walking Dead.

I just picked up the first two trades of The Walking Dead series. I have heard nothing, but rave reviews about it and although I am about seven years late I can't wait to read it. The lady normally drives like a banshee, so as a means of distraction I am hoping The Walking Dead will suffice for the more hairier bits of the ride.

Evanston is gorgeous at the time being. There is a slight breeze, people are genuinely in a good mood and the sounds of the town are pleasant. I took a short walk to check out the local stores and almost pulled the trigger on a new American Apparel tee shirt. I decided on comics instead obviously, but I find my walks to be more enjoyable now that I am in better shape. I don't mind going farther. I have the energy to do it and I don't find myself taking shortcuts as much. All in all this lifestyle change has been a solid choice. Week two of Insanity is almost done. The second "fit test" is on Monday, I am sure I won't be gasping or at the very least, I will not get sick.

It's the little things.
